Saunyi River (Mto Saunyi in Swahili) is located in the western Tanga Region and southern Manyara Region of Tanzania. It begins in Mkindi ward in Kilindi District of Tanga Region and eventually drains into Pangani River at Mkalamo ward in Korogwe District. [1] [2] [3]

Handeni District is one of the 11 districts of Tanga Region in Tanzania. The District covers an area of 6,534 km2 (2,523 sq mi). It is bordered to the west by the Kilindi District and the Handeni Urban District, to the north by the Korogwe District, to the east by the Pangani District, and to the south by the Pwani Region. In 2002 Kilindi District was formed out of the district. The administrative capital of the district is Mkata town. According to the 2002 Tanzania National Census, the population of the Handeni District was 248,633. According to the 2012 census, the population had increased to: 276,646.

Kilindi is one of eleven administrative districts of Tanga Region in Tanzania. The District covers an area of 6,444 km2 (2,488 sq mi). It is bordered to the east by the Handeni District and Handeni Town Council, to the south west by the Kiteto District and north west by the Simanjiro District of Manyara Region. Kilindi District is bordered to the south by Gairo District and Kilosa District of Morogoro Region. The district created from Handeni District in 2002. The district seat (capital) is the town of Songe. According to the 2012 census, the district has a total population of 236,833.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Tongoni Ruins</span> National Historic Site of Tanzania


The Tongoni Ruins are a 15th century Swahili ruins of a mosque and forty tombs located in Tongoni ward in Tanga District inside Tanga Region of Tanzania. The area was a different place four to five centuries ago. Contrary to its almost unnoticed presence today, it was a prosperous and a respected Swahili trading centre during the 15th century. Most of the ruins are still not yet been uncovered. The site is a registered National Historic Site.

The Zigula or Zigua are a Bantu ethnic and linguistic people hailing from far northern Pwani Region and western southern Tanga Region. In Tanga Region they are the majority in Handeni District, northern Kilindi District and also a historically significant population in south of the Pangani River in Pangani District. They speak the Zigula language. In 1993, the Zigua population was estimated to number 355,000 people.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Shambaa people</span> Ethnic group from Tanga Region, Tanzania

The Shambaa people, also called the Sambaa, Shambala, Sambala or Sambara, are a Bantu ethnic group. Their ancestral home is on the Usambara Mountains of Lushoto District, Bumbuli District. They are native to the valleys and eastern Usambara Mountains of Korogwe District, Korogwe Urban District and western Muheza District of northern Tanga Region of Tanzania. The word Shamba means "farm", and these people live in one of the most fertile Tanzanian region. In 2001, the Shambaa population was estimated to number 664,000.

The Bondei People are a Bantu ethnic group based in Pangani District in east Tanga Region in northeastern Tanzania. Bondei speak a Bantu language and are related to the Shambaa ethnic group.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Elerai</span> Ward of Arusha City Council in Arusha Region of Tanzania

Elerai is an administrative ward in Arusha District, Arusha Region of Tanzania. It is one of 19 urban administrative wards in the municipality. The ward is bordered by Olasiti ward to the west, Kiranyi ward to the north, Ngarenaro ward to the east, Sombetini to the south and, a tiny portion of Unga L.T.D ward to the southeast. The ward covers an area of 3.746 km2 and ranks number eleven in the area in Arusha city. The ward is home to the national National College of Tourism, the African Court and Tanzania National Parks Authority (TANAPA)'s national headquarters, also the Arusha Modern school. The school's famous alumna is Tanzanian recording artist, Vanessa Mdee, who received secondary education there. According to the 2012 census, the ward had a total population of 40,749.

Mbegha was the first "Lion King" of the Shambaa people, modern-day Northeastern Tanzania, who lived during the first half of the 18th century. While his existence is undisputed among historians, his biography is mainly based on oral traditions. Numerous legends have made him a mythic hero.

Handeni Town Council also known as Handeni Urban District is one of the 11 districts of the Tanga Region of Tanzania. The district covers an area of 837.4 km2 (323.3 sq mi). The administrative capital of the district is Mdoe. Handeni Town District is bordered to the east by Handeni District and the west by Kilindi District.

Vugha or Vuga is historic village located inside Bumbuli District of Tanga Region in Tanzania. The settlement was established as the capital of the Kilindi dynasty.

The ward covers an area of 13 km2 (5.0 sq mi), and has an average elevation of 37 m (121 ft).

Chalinze is one of nine administrative districts of Pwani Region in Tanzania. The district covers an area of 8,042 km2 (3,105 sq mi). The district is comparable in size to the land area of Puerto Rico. Chalinze District is bordered to the northeast by Pangani District, the north by Handeni District and in Kilindi District of Tanga Region. The district is bordered to the east by the Indian Ocean. Chalinze is also borders Bagamoyo District, Kibaha Urban District and to the South by Kibaha District. On the western part, the district is borderd by Mvomero District and Morogoro Rural District of Morogoro Region.
