TRL Krosaki Refractories Limited (Formerly Tata Refractories Limited and TRL) [1] is an Indian refractory company. It was established in 1958 in Belpahar, a city in Jharsuguda district of Odisha.

It mainly produces basic, dolomite, high alumina, monolithics, silica, flow control products and tap hole clay refractories having a consolidated installed capacity of 4,00,000 MT per annum.

Its key customers are the steel, cement, glass, copper and aluminium industries. During the year 2010–2011, the company achieved the distinction of being the first Indian refractories company to cross 1,000 crore (US$214.26 million) consolidated turnover. Current gross revenue stands at 2,299.15 crore (US$492.62 million)

History

In 1958, Tata Steel formed a new refractory factory at Belpahar namely Belpahar Refractories Limited born JV between TISCO and Didier Werke, Germany. Fortune 500 Programme Launched Major modernization and expansion projects undertaken Over the years, strategies were drawn, plans were executed to modernize and grow the Plant. One of the key strategy nicknamed as "Fortune 500" in 2003 helped the Company achieve an annual Turnover of Rs.500 Crores by end of 2007.It was later renamed Tata Refractories under the Tata Group. In 2011, Tata sold 51% of its shares to Krosaki Harima Corporation [2] of Japan, and the refractory company's name was changed to TRL Krosaki Refractories Limited.

TRL Krosaki Refractories Limited, now a subsidiary of Krosaki Harima Group, Japan, has pioneered refractories manufacturing in India over past 66 years. The Company (then named “Belpahar Refractories Limited”) was incorporated in the year 1958 as a joint venture between Tata Iron & Steel Company, India and Didier Werke, Germany. Over the years, the Company grew significantly under the stewardship of illustrious Tata Group, India and subsequently under Krosaki Harima Corporation (KHC), Japan, a world leader in refractories technology. The association with Krosaki Harima Corporation has helped the Company to access world class refractories technology required for its long-term growth.

TRL Krosaki Refractories Limited, widely known for its world class product quality and superior technical support services, is the only refractory company in India which manufactures all types and qualities of refractories under one roof at its Main Plant located at Belpahar, Odisha, India. As a Refractories Company in India, TRL Krosaki has many ‘Firsts’ to its credit, such as, it is the first Integrated Management System (IMS) certified Indian refractories company having certified to Quality Management ISO 9001:2015, Environment Management ISO 140001:2015, and Occupational Health and Safety Management ISO 45001:2018 Standards. It is also the first refractories Company in India to get certified to ISO/IEC 27001/2013 for information Security Management System. The most noteworthy achievement for TRL Krosaki is that, it has become the first and only Refractory Company which is certified to Social Accountability standard, i.e, SA 8000: 2014.

Besides having one of the most well equipped and modern plant, TRL Krosaki is having world class Technology Centre and an NABL certified Central laboratory with accreditation in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025:2017.
