Air India Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Tata Group. On the anniversary of the airline's founder JRD Tata's birth, its new headquarters at Vatika One on One in Gurgram [4] was inaugurated. The new headquarters space will be home to all TATA Group airlines. It was headquartered at the Airlines House in New Delhi [5] prior to TATA's takeover.

It was previously a central public sector undertaking under the ownership of Ministry of Civil Aviation. It was incorporated on 30 March 2007 as the National Aviation Company of India Limited to oversee the merger of Air India, Indian Airlines and Alliance Air. [6] It was renamed as Air India Limited on 26 October 2010. [7]

Air India Limited was privatized through its sale to the Tata Group. On 8 October 2021 Tata Sons paid 180 billion (US$2.3 billion) to Government of India and Tata will also assume 153 billion (US$1.9 billion) of Air India Limited's debt as per the transfer deal. [8] [9] The remaining 462.62 billion (US$5.8 billion) of Air India Limited's debt was also transferred to AIAHL. [10] [11]

The Tata Group requested approval from the CCI to merge AirAsia India with Air India Limited in April 2022, [12] which was granted on 14 June 2022. [13]

On 15 April 2022, Alliance Air was no longer a subsidiary of Air India Limited. Alliance Air is now the only airline under the control of the Government. [14]

Upon completion of the remaining stake sale in AIX Connect (formerly AirAsia India) by AirAsia Bhd on 2 November 2022, there is now one primary airline, Air India, with two divisions (AirAsia India and Air India Express) carriers providing low-cost point-to-point services. The merger between AirAsia India and Air India Express, is set to be completed by the end of 2023.

On 29 November 2022, Tata Group and Singapore Airlines announced that Vistara will be merged with Air India Limited by March 2024. Singapore Airlines will hold 25.1% of the merged entity.

Kempegowda International Airport is an international airport serving Bangalore, the capital of Karnataka, India. Spread over 4,000 acres (1,600 ha), it is located about 30 kilometres (19 mi) north of the city near the suburb of Devanahalli. As of February 2024, Air India operates a fleet of both narrow-body and wide-body aircraft with a fleet consisting of Airbus A319, A320, A320neo, A321, A321neo, A350 as well as the Boeing 777 and Boeing 787, making for a total of 136 aircraft.

Tata Docomo was an Indian mobile network operator, a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Teleservices deriving its name from NTT Docomo who invested in the company in 2008. In October 2017, Bharti Airtel announced a merger deal with Tata Teleservices and the acquisition of Tata Docomo. As of 21 July 2019, all Tata Docomo users are merged with Airtel network and provided with all the Airtel services.

Tata Coffee is an Indian company that produces coffee, tea, pepper and related products. It is a subsidiary of Tata Consumer Products, and is part of the Tata Group. Tata Coffee owns 19 coffee estates in South India, spread across the districts of Chikmagalur, Kodagu, and Hassan in Karnataka, and Valparai district in Tamil Nadu. Tata Coffee is the largest integrated coffee plantation company in the world.

Air India is the flag carrier airline of India. It is owned by Air India Limited, a Tata Group enterprise and operates a fleet of Airbus and Boeing aircraft serving 102 domestic and international destinations. It is headquartered in Gurugram. The airline has its main hub at Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi and secondary hub at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai alongside several focus cities across India. As of July 2023, the airline is the second-largest airline in India in terms of passengers carried, after IndiGo. Air India became the 27th member of Star Alliance on 11 July 2014.

Campbell Wilson is the chief executive officer and managing director of Air India, from 16 June 2022. He was previously the chief executive officer of Singaporean low-cost airline, Scoot. He was appointed the founding member of the airline on 18 July 2011. Before his appointment, he worked for the SIA group for more than 15 years in countries like Japan, Canada, and Hong Kong. He left Scoot in June 2016 when he was appointed as the acting senior vice president of sales and marketing for Singapore Airlines. He was once again brought back as Scoot CEO on 1 April 2020. On 12 May 2022, he was appointed as the CEO & MD of Air India and was scheduled to leave his role at Scoot on 15 June 2022.

AIX Connect, formerly known as AirAsia India, is an Indian low-cost airline headquartered in Bangalore (Bengaluru), Karnataka and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Air India Limited which in turn is owned by Tata Group. The airline was founded as a joint venture between Tata Sons and AirAsia Bhd and commenced operations in June 2014 with Bangalore as its primary operating base. From 2020 to 2022, AirAsia Bhd gradually disinvested its shares in the joint venture and sold them to Tata Sons. In December 2022, after the entire shares of AirAsia India was acquired by Tata Sons, the airline was renamed AIX Connect ahead of its merger with Air India Express.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Vistara</span> Indian airline

Tata SIA Airlines Limited, operating as Vistara, is an Indian full-service airline, based in Gurugram, with its hub at Indira Gandhi International Airport. The carrier, a joint venture between Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines, commenced operations on 9 January 2015 with its inaugural flight between Delhi and Mumbai. The airline had carried more than two million passengers by June 2016 and as of April 2023, has a 8.7% share of the domestic carrier market, making it the 2nd largest domestic airline, behind IndiGo. The airline serves 50 destinations with a fleet of Airbus A320neo, Airbus A321neo and Boeing 787-9 aircraft.
