Air India Limited is an Indian aviation holding company notably consisting of Air India and Air India Express headquartered in Gurugram, India. Its ownership is divided between Tata Group (74.9%) and Singapore Airlines (25.1%). On the anniversary of the airline's founder J. R. D. Tata's birth, its headquarters is in Gurugram [4] was inaugurated.

It was previously a central public sector undertaking under the ownership of Ministry of Civil Aviation. It was incorporated on 30 March 2007 as the National Aviation Company of India Limited to oversee the merger of Air India, Indian Airlines . [5] It was renamed as Air India Limited on 26 October 2010. [6]

Air India Limited was privatized through its sale to the Tata Group. On 8 October 2021 Tata Sons paid 180 billion (US$2.2 billion) to Government of India and Tata will also assume 153 billion (US$1.8 billion) of Air India Limited's debt as per the transfer deal. [7] [8] The remaining 462.62 billion (US$5.5 billion) of Air India Limited's debt was also transferred to AlAHL. Alliance air [9] [10]

The Tata Group requested approval from the CCI to merge AirAsia India and Vistara with Air India Limited in April 2022, [11] which was granted on 14 June 2022. [12]

On 15 April 2022, Alliance Air was no longer a subsidiary of Air India Limited. Alliance Air is now the only airline under the control of the Government of India. [13]

As of 7 July 2019, all Tata Docomo users are merged with Airtel network and provided with all the Airtel services.

Niira Radia is a former corporate lobbyist whose taped telephone conversations implicated her influence in the allocation of key ministries in the Government of India in 2009. Discussion of the tapes resulted in the Radia tapes controversy, which was a media event that led to the uncovering of the alleged 2G spectrum scam involving former telecommunications minister A Raja. These events led to Raja's resignation and later acquittal by Special CBI court, and Radia's departure from corporate lobbying.

AIX Connect, formerly known as AirAsia India, was an Indian low-cost airline headquartered in Bangalore (Bengaluru), Karnataka and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Air India Limited which in turn is owned by Tata Group. The airline was founded as a joint venture between Tata Sons and AirAsia Bhd and commenced operations in June 2014 with Bangalore as its primary operating base. From 2020 to 2022, AirAsia Bhd gradually disinvested its shares in the joint venture and sold them to Tata Sons. In December 2022, after the entire shares of AirAsia India was acquired by Tata Sons, the airline was renamed AIX Connect ahead of its merger with Air India Express.

Tata SIA Airlines Limited was an Indian full-service airline, based in Gurgaon, with its hub at Indira Gandhi International Airport. The carrier, a joint venture between Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines, commenced operations on 9 January 2015 with its inaugural flight between Delhi and Mumbai. The airline had carried more than two million passengers by June 2016 and as of September 2024, had a 10.0% share of the domestic carrier market, making it the 3rd largest domestic airline, behind IndiGo and Air India. The airline served 50 destinations with a fleet of Airbus A320neo, Airbus A321neo and Boeing 787-9 aircraft.
