The Forgotten Realms Atlas is an indexed book which contains three-color maps of the Forgotten Realms. [2] [3] This includes large, small scale regional maps (one inch to two hundred miles), as well as detailed location maps and diagrams of areas including the Moonshae Isles, the Northwest lands near Waterdeep, and the Western Heartlands areas around Cormyr and the Dalelands. [2] These large scale maps cover the areas detailed in Forgotten Realms game modules and novels that had been published before the Atlas.

The maps are grouped by period, namely the First, Second, and Third Ages of Middle-earth, with chapters on The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. A final chapter looks at geographic themes such as climate, vegetation, population, and languages around Middle-earth.
Ruins of Adventure is a Dungeons & Dragons module that was based on the "Gold Box" role-playing video game Pool of Radiance, published in 1988 by Strategic Simulations, Inc. (SSI). Mike Breault stated that TSR chose him, Winter, Cook, and Ward to work on the design and writing for Pool of Radiance, indicating that the material was originally created for the game. However, according to the editors of Dragon magazine, Pool of Radiance was based on Ruins of Adventure, and not vice versa. The plot loosely tracks that of the computer game.
