Reality television is a genre of television programming that documents purportedly unscripted real-life situations, often starring unknown individuals rather than professional actors. Reality television came to prominence in the late 1990s and the early 2000s with the global successes of the series Survivor, Idols, and Big Brother, all of which became global franchises. Reality television shows tend to be interspersed with "confessionals", short interview segments in which cast members reflect on or provide context for the events being depicted on-screen. Competition-based reality shows typically feature gradual elimination of participants, either by a panel of judges or by the viewership of the show.
A talent show is an event in which participants perform the arts of singing, dancing, lip-syncing, acting, martial arts, playing an instrument, or other activities to showcase skills. Many talent shows are performances rather than contests, but some are actual contests. In the instance of a contest, participants may be motivated to perform for a reward, trophy, or prize of some kind. For example, a high school might not have many students with any interest in performing in front of the student body for the sole purpose of performing alone and may offer different prizes as an incentive for these students to participate in the contest.
The Voice is an American singing competition television series broadcast on NBC. It premiered during the spring television cycle on April 26, 2011, and expanded into the fall cycle with the premiere of the third season on September 10, 2012. Based on the original The Voice of Holland, it has aired fifteen seasons and aims to find currently unsigned singing talent contested by aspiring singers, age 13 or over, drawn from public auditions.
Chloe Kohanski was announced as the winner of the season, marking Blake Shelton's sixth win as a coach, and making her the third stolen artist to win, following Josh Kaufman in Season 6 and Craig Wayne Boyd in Season 7. For the first time, the Top 3 artists were all female and the Top 2 were stolen artists. It was also the first time that the Top 3 artists were all originally from the same team (Miley Cyrus).
Joshua Kaufman is an American soul singer and singer-songwriter. A native of the Tampa Bay area in Florida, Kaufman is based out of and resides in Indianapolis, Indiana. He is best known for winning the sixth season of NBC's The Voice as a member of Usher's team and previously Adam Levine's team. At age 38 he became the oldest winner in series history.
The sixth season of the American reality talent show The Voice premiered on February 24, 2014, on NBC. Carson Daly returned to host. Adam Levine and Blake Shelton returned as coaches for their sixth season, while Shakira and Usher returned for their second season after being replaced by original coaches Christina Aguilera and CeeLo Green in season five.
Craig Wayne Boyd is an American country singer and songwriter. A native of Dallas, Texas, Boyd is based out of and resides in Nashville, Tennessee. He is best known for winning Season 7 of NBC's reality TV singing competition The Voice as a part of Blake Shelton's team.
The coach lineup changed once again for the thirteenth season. Gwen Stefani and Alicia Keys did not return as coaches. They were replaced by Miley Cyrus, who returned after a one-season hiatus, along with returning coaches Adam Levine and Blake Shelton. On May 10, 2017, NBC announced that Jennifer Hudson would join as a coach, following her success on The Voice UK . Carson Daly returned for his thirteenth season as host. [3] [2]
Gwen Renée Stefani is an American singer, songwriter, actress, and record producer. She is a co-founder and the lead vocalist of the band No Doubt, whose singles include "Just a Girl" and "Don't Speak" from their 1995 breakthrough studio album Tragic Kingdom, as well as "Hey Baby" and "It's My Life" from later albums.
Alicia Augello Cook, known professionally as Alicia Keys, is an American musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer. A classically-trained pianist, Keys was composing songs by age 12 and was signed at 15 years old by Columbia Records. After disputes with the label, she signed with Arista Records, and later released her debut album, Songs in A Minor, with J Records in 2001. The album was critically and commercially successful, producing her first Billboard Hot 100 number-one single "Fallin'" and selling over 12 million copies worldwide. The album earned Keys five Grammy Awards in 2002. Her second album, The Diary of Alicia Keys (2003), was also a critical and commercial success, spawning successful singles "You Don't Know My Name", "If I Ain't Got You", and "Diary", and selling eight million copies worldwide. The album garnered her an additional four Grammy Awards. Her duet "My Boo" with Usher became her second number-one single in 2004. Keys released her first live album, Unplugged (2005), and became the first woman to have an MTV Unplugged album debut at number one.
Miley Ray Hemsworth is an American singer, songwriter, and actress. After playing minor roles in the television series Doc and the film Big Fish as a child, she became a teen idol in 2006, starring in the Disney Channel television series Hannah Montana as the character Miley Stewart. Her father, musician Billy Ray Cyrus, also starred in the series, which aired for four seasons until 2011.
This season, for the first time since season six, the Playoffs did not kick off the live rounds and voting. Instead, the Top 12 were chosen by the coaches. In previous seasons, the finalists were partially determined by viewers’ votes. [4] [5]
This season's Battle advisors were: Joe Jonas for Team Adam, Billy Ray Cyrus for Team Miley, Kelly Rowland for Team Jennifer, Rascal Flatts for Team Blake. Kelly Clarkson was a key advisor for all of the teams.
Joseph Adam Jonas is an American singer, songwriter, and actor. He rose to fame as a member of the pop rock band the Jonas Brothers, alongside his brothers Kevin and Nick. The group released their debut studio album It's About Time through the Columbia label in 2006, which failed to achieve commercial success. After signing with Hollywood Records, the group released their self-titled second studio album in 2007, which became their breakthrough record. The band became prominent figures on the Disney Channel during this time, gaining a large following through the network: they appeared in the widely successful musical television film Camp Rock (2008) and its sequel Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam (2010) as well as two of their own series, Jonas Brothers: Living the Dream (2008–2010) and Jonas (2009–2010).
Billy Ray Cyrus is an American singer, songwriter and actor.
Kelendria Trene Rowland is an American singer, songwriter, actress, and television personality. Rowland rose to fame in the late 1990s as a member of Destiny's Child, one of the world's best-selling girl groups of all time. During their hiatus, Rowland released her debut solo album Simply Deep (2002), which sold 2.5 million copies worldwide and included the number-one single "Dilemma" with Nelly, as well as the UK top-ten singles "Stole" and "Can't Nobody". Rowland also ventured into acting, with guest appearances in television shows and starring roles in successful films, Freddy vs. Jason (2003) and The Seat Filler (2005).

The Playoffs were taped on August 31 and September 1, and comprised episodes 15, 16, and 17. As in season 6, the Playoffs were prerecorded, featuring no interactive viewer voting component, and therefore no subsequent results shows. As in seasons 9, 10, and 12, four previously eliminated artists were chosen by the coaches to come back for the Playoffs. This time, they were Natalie Stovall (picked by Blake Shelton), Lucas Holliday (chosen by Jennifer Hudson), Karli Webster (picked by Miley Cyrus), and Whitney Fenimore (selected by Adam Levine).[ citation needed ]
This season is the first to have the Playoffs taped on the same stage as the Battles and the Knockouts.[ citation needed ] The top twenty-four artists performed for the coaches, with each coach choosing three artists from their teams for elimination. The remaining top twelve artists advanced to the live shows.

The Top 8 performed on Monday, December 11, 2017, with the results following on Tuesday, December 12, 2017. Like Season 12, the duets between contestants were part of the competition and public voting. In the semifinals, three artists will automatically move to next week's finale, the two artists with the fewest votes will be immediately eliminated and the middle three will contend for the remaining spot in the next week's finals via the Instant Save. iTunes bonuses this week awarded to Chloe Kohanski (#1), Addison Agen (#2), Chloe Kohanski and Noah Mac (Duet) (#3), Red Marlow (#5), Brooke Simpson (#6) and Noah Mac (#7). Davon Fleming’s “Gravity” was in the Top 10 earlier Tuesday, but it had fallen to #11 by the voting deadline. [12]
With the eliminations of Noah Mac and Davon Fleming, Jennifer Hudson no longer has any artists remaining on her team. Noah Mac was the first artist to receive two iTunes bonuses and to be eliminated during the same week. With the advancement of Brooke Simpson, this marked Miley Cyrus's first season with a finalist, as she did not have one in the eleventh season.
