Walnut Grove is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Hardin County, Tennessee. Walnut Grove is located on Tennessee State Route 69, north of the Alabama border. As of the 2010 census, its population was 396. [2]

From 1880 until the 1960 U.S. Census, with the exclusion of 1890 when no figure was reported, Walnut Grove had the distinction of being the least populated community wholly within Etowah County. It lost that distinction in 1970 to newly incorporated Ridgeville which has held the title since.

It had been privately owned and operated since 2001 under a contract with the state Department of Corrections. By 2011 it was the largest juvenile facility in the nation.
