26 February – the Royal Flying Corps establishes the first operational military airfield for fixed-wing aircraft in the United Kingdom at Montrose.^[1]
21 April – the Cunard ocean liner RMS Aquitania, built by John Brown & Company, is launched on the River Clyde.
27 May – Lieutenant Desmond Arthur dies when his Royal Aircraft Factory B.E.2 biplane, 205, collapses without warning while flying over Montrose, Scotland's first fatal aircraft accident.
6 June – Stoneyetts Hospital is opened at East Muckcroft (later part of Moodiesburn, North Lanarkshire), originally for the treatment of people with epilepsy.^[2]
22 July – Edinburgh Zoo opens.
3 August – 22 men are killed by fire at Cadder colliery near Bishopbriggs.^[3]

Falkirk is a town in the Central Lowlands of Scotland, historically within the county of Stirlingshire. It lies in the Forth Valley, 23+1⁄2 miles northwest of Edinburgh and 20+1⁄2 miles (33 km) northeast of Glasgow.

Commodore James Graham, 6th Duke of Montrose was a Scottish nobleman, naval officer, politician and engineer. He took the first film of a solar eclipse and is credited as the inventor of the aircraft carrier.

Stoneyetts Hospital was a psychiatric hospital located in Moodiesburn, near Glasgow. Opened in 1913, Stoneyetts served as an important source of employment for residents within the expanding Moodiesburn area. The function of the institution changed throughout its existence: it originally cared for those with epilepsy, before housing people with intellectual disability, and from 1937 treating those with mental disorders. By the early 1970s there was an emphasis toward psychogeriatric care at the hospital.
