Elections to the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly were held in February 1967. These were the elections to the legislative assembly having 296 seats in undivided Madhya Pradesh. [1] Govind Narayan Singh was elected to the assembly as an Indian National Congress candidate but soon rebelled against the incumbent Chief Minister, Dwarka Prasad Mishra and resigned from the Congress party. He formed a new political party, known as the Lok Sewak Dal and became the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh as the leader of a coalition, known as the Samyukta Vidhayak Dal. [2] [3]

Contents

After the previous election in 1962, the number of constituencies in Madhya Pradesh were increased from 288 to 296, following the recommendation of the Delimitation Commission of India. [4]

This constituency came into existence in 1951 as one of the 79 Vidhan Sabha constituencies of the erstwhile Madhya Bharat state. It was abolished in 1956 but again came into existence in 1961. This constituency is reserved for the candidates belonging to the Scheduled tribes since its inception.

Maihar Assembly constituency is one of the 230 Vidhan Sabha constituencies of Madhya Pradesh state in central India. This constituency came into existence in 1951.

Elections to the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly were held in March 1972. These were the elections to the legislative assembly having 296 seats in undivided Madhya Pradesh. The Indian National Congress won a majority of seats and Prakash Chandra Sethi was sworn in as the new Chief Minister.

Elections to the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly were held in February 1969, to elect members of the 425 constituencies in Uttar Pradesh, India. The Indian National Congress won the most seats as well as the popular vote, and Chandra Bhanu Gupta was appointed the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.

Elections to the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly were held in February 1962. 1,336 candidates contested for the 288 constituencies in the Assembly. The Indian National Congress won the most seats and Dwarka Prasad Mishra was sworn in for his second term as the Chief Minister.

Elections to the Bihar Legislative Assembly were held in February 1967, to elect members of the 318 constituencies in Bihar, India. The Indian National Congress won the most seats as well as the popular vote, but Mahamaya Prasad Sinha of the Jana Kranti Dal was appointed as the Chief Minister of Bihar. No single party had won a majority of seats, and the Indian National Congress joined a post-poll coalition with the Jana Kranti Dal, and some Independents, to form the government.
