1992 German Formula Three Championship

The 1992 German Formula Three Championship (German : 1992 Deutsche Formel-3-Meisterschaft) was a multi-event motor racing championship for single-seat open wheel formula racing cars that held across Europe. The championship featured drivers competing in two-litre Formula Three racing cars which conform to the technical regulations, or formula, for the championship. It commenced on 4 April at Zolder and ended at Hockenheim on 11 October after thirteen double-header rounds.

Contents

Opel Team WTS driver Pedro Lamy became the first and only Portuguese champion. He won eleven races and scored another seven podium finishes on his way to championship title. Marco Werner finished as runner-up, losing the title battle after the retirement from the penultimate race of the season. Sascha Maassen was victorious at Wunstorf and Alemannenring. Diogo Castro Santos and Philipp Peter completed the top-five in the drivers' championship. Michael Krumm and Jörg Müller were the other race winners. Christian Abt clinched the B-Cup championship title. [1]

The 1958 Formula One season was the 12th season of Formula One motor racing. It featured the 1958 World Championship of Drivers, which commenced on 19 January 1958 and ended on 19 October after eleven races. This was the first Formula One season in which a manufacturers title was awarded, the International Cup for F1 Manufacturers being contested concurrently with the World Championship of Drivers except the Indianapolis 500 which did not count towards the Cup. Englishman Mike Hawthorn won the Drivers' title after a close battle with compatriot Stirling Moss and Vanwall won the inaugural Manufacturers award from Ferrari. Hawthorn retired from racing at the end of the season, only to die three months later after a road car accident. It was the first of only two occasions in Formula One history where a driver won the championship, having won only one race in the season, the other being Keke Rosberg in 1982.

Tom's twin brother Tim is also a racer, just like their father Tom Coronel Sr. His most important results are winning the Marlboro Masters of Formula 3 race in 1997, the Formula Nippon championship in 1999, and the 2006 and 2009 World Touring Car Championship Independents' Trophy. As of September 2016, Tom Coronel has driven over 1,000 races.

The 1992 Indianapolis 500 was sanctioned by USAC, but counted towards the CART points championship. Al Unser Jr. won the Indy 500 in the closest finish in the history of that event.
