The Men's 3000 metres steeplechase event at the 2011 World Championships in Athletics was held at the Daegu Stadium on August 29 & September 1.
The 3000 metres steeplechase or 3000-meter steeplechase is the most common distance for the steeplechase in track and field. It is an obstacle race over the distance of the 3000 metres, which derives its name from the horse racing steeplechase.
The 13th IAAF World Championships in Athletics was an international athletics competition that was held in Daegu, South Korea. It started on 27 August 2011 and finished on 4 September 2011.
Daegu Stadium, also known as the Blue Arc, is a sports stadium located in Daegu, South Korea. It was formerly named Daegu World Cup Stadium but was changed to Daegu Stadium on 5 March 2008. It has a seating capacity for 66,422 people, and parking for 3,550 cars. It is located approximately 11 kilometers or 20 minutes by car from Daegu Airport. It is managed by the Daegu Sports Facilities Management Center.

The final was a slow race with Ugandans Jacob Araptany and Benjamin Kiplagat controlling the pace, with three Kenyans immediately behind. As the last lap began, Kiplagat fell back but Araptany led until one barrier before the water jump. There Ezekiel Kemboi blasted past, with Brimin Kipruto in tow. Kemboi had such a substantial lead coming off the last barrier, he started celebrating and drifted out to lane 7 where he finished. His post race, shirtless celebration dance was one of the most exuberant in recent memory, rivaling some celebrations normally performed by sprinters. Araptany faded at the finish, passed by Mahiedine Mekhissi-Benabbad for the bronze.
Jacob Araptany is an Ugandan runner. He competed in the 3000 m steeplechase at the 2012 and 2016 Olympics, reaching the final in 2016. He withdrew from the 1500 m event at the 2012 Olympics to focus on the 3000m steeplechase. He missed the 2014 Commonwealth Games because of injury.
Benjamin Kiplagat is a Ugandan long-distance runner specializing in the 3000 metres steeplechase.
Ezekiel Kemboi Cheboi is a Kenyan athlete, winner of the 3000 metres steeplechase at the 2004 Summer Olympics, the 2009 World Championships, the 2011 World Championships, the 2012 Summer Olympics, the 2013 World Championships and the 2015 World Championships. His 3000 m steeplechase best of 7:55.76 set at Monaco in 2011 places him as the sixth fastest of all time. This time is also the fastest non-winning time in history. He is one of only four men to have won both Olympic and World golds in the event, along with Reuben Kosgei, Brimin Kipruto and Conseslus Kipruto. He is the only multiple gold medalist in both. He is the only athlete to win four (successive) world championships in the steeplechase.
