The Malaysian Islamic Party, also known as the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party or its Jawi-based acronym PAS, is an Islamist political party in Malaysia. Ideologically focused on Islamic fundamentalism, PAS's electoral base is largely centered around Peninsular Malaysia's rural and eastern coasts and conservative northern, particularly in the states of Kelantan, Terengganu, Perlis, & Kedah. They also gained significant support in the rural areas of Perak and Pahang in the last 2022 general election & 2023 state elections; dubbed as the "Green Wave".
Nik Abdul Aziz bin Nik Mat was a Malaysian politician and Muslim cleric. He was the Menteri Besar of Kelantan from 1990 to 2013 and the Mursyidul Am or Spiritual Leader of the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) from 1991 until his death in 2015. Overall, his career as an elected politician lasted for some 48 years following his election to the Parliament of Malaysia in 1967.

The Pengkalan Pasir by-election was held on 6 December 2005 in the Pengkalan Pasir state assembly constituency of the PAS-governed state of Kelantan, Malaysia. Nominations were held on 27 November 2005, and the election was contested by Hanifa Ahmad of Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS), Hanafi Mamat of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) in the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition, and Ibrahim Ali, an independent candidate. The by-election was necessitated after the death of the incumbent, Wan Abdul Aziz Wan Jaafar from PAS, on 31 October because of cancer. Wan Abdul Aziz defeated Hanafi by 55 votes in the 2004 general election. In 2005, there are 18,411 eligible voters and 195 registered postal voters; 94.8% Malay and 5.2% Chinese in Pengkalan Pasir.
Kamarudin bin Jaffar is a Malaysian politician who served as the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for the second term in the Barisan Nasional (BN) administration under former Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob and former Minister Saifuddin Abdullah from August 2021 to the collapse of the BN administration in November 2022 and the first term in the Perikatan Nasional (PN) administration under former Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and former Minister Hishammudin Hussein from March 2020 to the collapse of the PN administration in August 2021, Member of Parliament (MP) for Bandar Tun Razak from May 2018 to November 2022, Deputy Minister of Transport in the Pakatan Harapan (PH) administration under former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad and former Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook from July 2018 to the collapse of the PH administration in February 2020 and MP for Tumpat from November 1999 to May 2018. He is a member of the Malaysian United Indigenous Party (BERSATU), a component party of the PN coalition and was a member of the People's Justice Party (PKR), a component party of the PH coalition, Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS), a former component party of the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) and Barisan Alternatif (BA) coalitions and United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), a component party of the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition.
Dato' Dr. Ibrahim bin Ali is a Malaysian politician. He is informally known as Tok Him. He served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Pasir Mas from August 1986 to April 1995 and again from March 2008 to May 2013. He is a member of the Parti Bumiputera Perkasa Malaysia (PUTRA), a component party of the Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA) opposition coalition. He has served as the 1st and founding President of PUTRA since May 2019. He is also founding President of the Malay dominance organisation Pertubuhan Pribumi Perkasa (PERKASA).

Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Annuar bin Musa is a Malaysian politician who served as the Minister of Communications and Multimedia in the Barisan Nasional (BN) administration under former Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob from August 2021 to the collapse of the BN administration in November 2022, Minister of Federal Territories under former Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin in the Perikatan Nasional (PN) administration from March 2020 to the collapse of the PN administration in August 2021, Minister of Rural Development and Minister of Youth and Sports under former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad in the Barisan Nasional (BN) administration from October 1990 to December 1999 and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ketereh from May 2013 to November 2022 and for Peringat from April 1995 to November 1999. He is a member and Member of Central Working Committee of the Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS), a component party of the PN coalition. He was an independent and member, Member of the Supreme Council, Information Chief, Division Chairman of Ketereh of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), a component party of the BN coalition. He also served as the Secretary-General of BN from March 2020 to January 2021. He joined UMNO in 1979 and was removed from UMNO in December 2022. He later joined PAS in March 2023. He was the president of Kelantan FA (Kafa) from 2009 until his resignation on 8 November 2016 but stay as its adviser. In 2018, he was nominated for the new FAM presidency role by Kuala Lumpur FA, reported in a Fox Sports Asia article. But he withdraw from the presidency race again.

A by-election was held for the Kelantan State Assembly seat of Pengkalan Kubor on 25 September 2014 following the nomination day on 13 September 2014. The seat fell vacant after the death of the incumbent three-term assemblyman, Noor Zahidi Omar from liver cancer in Guangzhou, China on 20 August 2014. Zahidi was an assemblyman from the United Malays National Organisation, a component party of the opposition Barisan Nasional coalition. In the 2013 general election, he defeated Pakatan Rakyat (PKR) candidate Saharun Ibrahim and an independent candidate by 1,736 votes.
A by-election was held for the Dewan Rakyat seat of P67 Kuala Kangsar, a parliamentary seat located in the state of Perak, Malaysia on 18 June 2016 following the nomination day on 5 June 2016. The seat fell vacant after death of member of parliament Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad, who died in a helicopter crash on May 5, 2016 while campaigning in the Sarawak state election. In the 2013 general election, Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad won the seat with a majority of 1,082 votes beating Khalil Idham Lim Abdullah of Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) and independent candidate Kamilia Ibrahim. This by-election was held concurrently with the Sungai Besar by-election for the same reason.
The Gagasan Sejahtera was a coalition of opposition Islamist political parties which promote the "ideas of peace" in Malaysia. The informal electoral pact was formed initially on 16 March 2016 by Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) and Parti Ikatan Bangsa Malaysia (IKATAN) as a Third Force to face both ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) and the opposition Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalitions in the upcoming 2018 Malaysian general election (GE14). It had announced on 13 August 2016 the pact to be formally called Gagasan Sejahtera. Pan-Malaysian Islamic Front (BERJASA) had later joined the coalition on 23 September 2016. The formation of the alliance brought criticism from both the main coalitions of BN and PH.

The 2019 Tanjung Piai by-election was a by-election held on 16 November 2019 for the Dewan Rakyat seat of Tanjung Piai. It was called following the death of incumbent, Md Farid Md Rafik on 21 September 2019.
A by-election was held on 4 July 2020 for the seat of Chini in the Pahang State Legislative Assembly. The seat became vacant following the death of the incumbent Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) of Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition, Abu Bakar Harun on 7 May 2020 who had held the seat since 2004. Mohd Sharim Md Zain from BN won the by-election with a 12,650 majority to retain the seat again.
Nik Mohamad Abduh bin Nik Abdul Aziz is a Malaysian politician who has served as a Senator since September 2023. He was chairman of the South Kelantan Development Authority (KESEDAR) from May 2020 to June 2023 and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bachok from May 2018 to November 2022 and for Pasir Mas from May 2013 to May 2018. He is a member of the Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS), a component party of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) and formerly Gagasan Sejahtera (GS) and Pakatan Rakyat (PR) coalitions. He is the son of Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, the former Menteri Besar of Kelantan and former spiritual leader of PAS. He was the youth chief of PAS from June 2015 to April 2017.
The 13th Kedah state election was held on 5 May 2013. Polling took place in 36 constituencies throughout the Malaysian state of Kedah, with each electing a State Assemblyman to the Kedah State Legislative Assembly. The election was conducted by the Malaysian Election Commission. The state election was held concurrently with the 2013 Malaysian general election.
