The 2010 Batu Sapi by-election in the Malaysian state of Sabah was held on 4 November 2010. The nomination of candidates was done on 26 October 2010. The Batu Sapi parliamentary seat fell vacant when its Member of Parliament; Datuk Edmund Chong Ket Wah of United Sabah Party or Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS), was killed after his 750cc motorcycle accident in Sabah on 9 October 2010. Previously PBS won the seat during the 2008 General Election by a 3,708-vote majority over Independent candidate Chung Kwong Wing. [1] [2] [3] A total 25,720 registered voters eligible to vote in this by-election. The electorate is made of 50.61% Bumiputera, 40.22% Chinese and 3% others. [4] [5]

Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Joseph Kurup is a Malaysian politician who served as 1st and founding President of the Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS), a component party of the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition from March 1994 to January 2023, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources and Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development in the BN administration under former Prime Ministers Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Najib Razak from March 2008 to May 2018. He served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Pensiangan from March 2008 to May 2018. He also served as Deputy Chief Minister of Sabah, State Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, State Minister of Communications and Works, State Minister of Finance, State Minister of Industrial Development, State Minister of Resource Development and Enterprise and State Minister of Youth and Sports of Sabah under former Chief Ministers Joseph Pairin Kitingan, Sakaran Dandai, Salleh Said Keruak, Yong Teck Lee, Bernard Giluk Dompok, Osu Sukam, Chong Kah Kiat and Musa Aman in the BN state administration from 1985 to 2004. He is a founding member of the PBRS and was a member of the Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS). He is also the father of Arthur Joseph Kurup, the Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Pensiangan MP and PBRS President.
Datuk Ir. Edmund Chong Ket Wah, born in Sandakan, Sabah was a Malaysian politician. He was the Member of the Parliament of Malaysia for the Batu Sapi constituency in Sabah, representing the United Sabah Party (PBS) in the governing Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition until his sudden death. He also held the post of treasurer-general and the Elopura division chief in PBS.
Zachary David Liew Vui Keong was a Malaysian politician who served as the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department in charge of legal affairs in the Pakatan Harapan (PH) administration under former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad from July 2018 to the collapse of the PH administration in February 2020 and Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department also in charge of legal affairs as well as Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry I in the Barisan Nasional (BN) administration under former Prime Ministers Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Najib Razak from March 2008 to May 2013. He also served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Batu Sapi from May 2018 till his death in October 2020 and for Sandakan from March 2008 to his defeat in May 2013. He served as the 3rd President of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) from 2006 to 2014, when he was replaced by Teo Chee Kang in a rancorous internal dispute. He disputed Teo's claim of the LDP party presidency with the Registrar of Societies (RoS). In 2018, Liew led about 200 LDP members to leave the party. He then joined another Sabah-based political party, Sabah Heritage Party (WARISAN) led by former Chief Minister of Sabah Shafie Apdal and served as its Permanent Chairman.
Datuk Seri Panglima Bung Moktar bin Radin is a Malaysian politician and lawyer {{Citation needed}} who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Kinabatangan since November 1999 and Member of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Lamag since September 2020. He served as the Deputy Chief Minister I, State Minister of Works of Sabah from September 2020 to January 2023, Chairman of FELCRA Berhad from 2013 to 2018 and Deputy Chairman of the Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Club (BNBBC) from 2008 to 2018. He is a member of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), a component party of the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition. He has also served as the State Chairman of BN and UMNO of Sabah since December 2018. He is a former member of United Sabah National Organisation (USNO).
The Galas by-election was an election for the Galas seat in the Kelantan state legislative assembly to replace the incumbent, who died in office. Polling was held on 4 November 2010. Nominations were held on 26 October 2010. The Galas state seat fell vacant following the death of assemblyman Che Hashim Sulaiman on 27 September due to cancer. Previously, PAS won the seat during the 2008 General Election by a 646-vote majority over Barisan Nasional's Saufi Deraman. A total 11,553 registered voters were eligible to vote in this by-election, including 127 postal voters. The electorate is made of 61.63% Malays, 20.08% Chinese, 16.37% Orang Asli, 1.6% Indians, 0.09% others. Barisan Nasional's candidate won the by-election.
Datuk Linda Tsen Thau Lin is a Malaysian politician. She is the former Member of the Parliament of Malaysia for the Batu Sapi constituency in Sandakan, Sabah, representing the United Sabah Party (PBS) in the former ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition.

She also served as the Deputy Chief Minister III in the WARISAN administration under Shafie from May 2018 to September 2020, and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tawau from May 2018 to November 2022. She is a member of the People's Justice Party (PKR), a component party of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition and formerly Barisan Alternatif (BA) and Pakatan Rakyat (PR) opposition coalitions. She has served as Vice President of PH since September 2017 and State Chairperson of PH of Sabah since August 2017. She has also served as Member of the Central Leadership Council (MPP) of PKR and Division Chairperson of Kota Kinabalu of PKR since July 2022. She also served as the State Chairperson of PKR of Sabah from October 2016 to her removal from the position in August 2022. She was also the Vice President of PKR. She was a member of the United Sabah Party (PBS) and Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA), component parties of the Gagasan Rakyat (GR) and Barisan Nasional (BN) coalitions.

He served as the Minister of International Trade and Industry in the Pakatan Harapan (PH) administration under former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad from July 2018 to the collapse of the PH administration in February 2020 and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Penampang from May 2013 to November 2022. He is a member of the Heritage Party (WARISAN) and was a member of the People's Justice Party (PKR), a component party of the PH and formerly Pakatan Rakyat (PR) coalitions. He has also served as the 1st and founding Deputy President of the WARISAN since party foundation in October 2016.

The prospect of snap elections had been considered high due to the political crisis that had been ongoing since 2020; political instability caused by coalition or party switching among members of Parliament, combined with the fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic, contributed to the resignation of two prime ministers and the collapse of each of their respective coalition governments since the 2018 general elections.
The 2019 Sandakan by-election was a by-election held on 11 May 2019 for the Dewan Rakyat seat of Sandakan. It was called following the death of incumbent, Wong Tien Fatt on 28 March 2019. Wong was a 2-term Member of Parliament for Sandakan since 2013. He was a member and Sabah state party chairman (2015-2019) of the Democratic Action Party (DAP), a component party of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition.
The 2020 Kimanis by-election is a by-election held on 18 January 2020 for the Dewan Rakyat seat of Kimanis. The seat was declared vacant after the Federal Court on 2 December 2019 upheld the Election Court's ruling earlier on 16 August, nullifying the sitting Member of Parliament (MP), Anifah Aman's victory in the 2018 general election (GE14). Anifah was the former Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2009 to 2018 and formerly a member of United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) part of the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition until he left to become independent, despite the fact that he had been a 4-term MP for Kimanis since 2004 and had just retained the seat under BN in the 2018 election a few months prior.

It was called following the death of the incumbent, Manis Muka Mohd Darah on 17 November 2020. Manis Muka was a 2-term state assemblywoman first elected at the 2018 Sabah state election. She was a member of the Sabah Heritage Party (WARISAN).
The 1981 Sabah state election was held between Monday, 23 March and Saturday, 28 March 1981. This was the fourth state election to take place. The Sabah State Legislative Assembly was dissolved on 21 February 1981, 2 months earlier than the expiry of the Assembly term on 26 April 1981. Candidates nomination took place on 7 March 1981.
