The 1997 Melekek by-election was a by-election that was held on 14 June 1997 for the Malacca State Legislative Assembly seat of Melekek. It was called following the death of its Barisan Nasional assemblyman Mohd Zin Abdul Ghani by stroke. Zin won the seat on three previous general election. [1]

Nawi Ahmad of Barisan Nasional won the seat against Independent candidate J.Appalasamy with a majority of 4,431 while Appalasamy lost his deposit.The seat have 7,874 registered voters. [2]

Nomination

DAP announced that it will not contest the seat. [3] PAS also decide to not field a candidate. [4] On nomination day, two candidate were confirmed. Barisan Nasional nominated former teacher Nawi Ahmad [5] while another candidate is Independent J.Appalasamy. [6]

The National Front, officially Barisan Nasional (BN), is a political coalition of Malaysia that was founded in 1974 as a coalition of centre-right and right-wing political parties to succeed the Alliance Party. The Pengkalan Pasir by-election was held on 6 December 2005 in the Pengkalan Pasir state assembly constituency of the PAS-governed state of Kelantan, Malaysia. Nominations were held on 27 November 2005, and the election was contested by Hanifa Ahmad of Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS), Hanafi Mamat of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) in the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition, and Ibrahim Ali, an independent candidate. The by-election was necessitated after the death of the incumbent, Wan Abdul Aziz Wan Jaafar from PAS, on 31 October because of cancer. Wan Abdul Aziz defeated Hanafi by 55 votes in the 2004 general election. In 2005, there are 18,411 eligible voters and 195 registered postal voters; 94.8% Malay and 5.2% Chinese in Pengkalan Pasir.

The Batu Talam by-election was held on 28 January 2007. The seat of Batu Talam in the state assembly of Pahang, Malaysia, fell vacant after the death of the incumbent, Tengku Paris Tengku Razlan of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), the leading party of the ruling Barisan Nasional. Nominations were held on 16 January, with two candidates filing to contest — Abdul Aziz Mat Kiram of UMNO, and independent candidate Ng Chee Pang.

General elections were held in Malaysia on Saturday, 8 March 2008. Voting took place in all 222 parliamentary constituencies of Malaysia, each electing one Member of Parliament to the Dewan Rakyat, the dominant house of Parliament. State elections also took place in 505 state constituencies in 12 of the 13 states on the same day.

The Tenang state by-election was a state by-election that was held on 30 January 2011 in the state of Johor, Malaysia. The nomination of candidates was done on 22 January 2011. The Tenang parliamentary seat fell vacant when its state assemblyman Datuk Sulaiman Taha of United Malays National Organisation died due to a blood infection and other complications due to diabetes. Previously Sulaiman won the Tenang seat with a 2,492-vote majority, beating PAS' Mohd Saim Siran at the 2008 Malaysian general elections. The state assembly seat has some 14,511 voters consisting of 48.9% Malays, 38.3% Chinese, 12% Indians and 0.9% other races. PAS has picked as its candidate Normala Sudirman, a school teacher, while Barisan Nasional has picked Mohd Azahar.

The tenth Sarawak state election was held on Saturday, 16 April 2011 after nomination for candidates on Wednesday, 6 April 2011. The purpose of the election was to elect 71 representatives to the Sarawak State Assembly. General elections were held in Malaysia on Wednesday, 9 May 2018. At stake were all 222 seats in the Dewan Rakyat, the lower house of parliament. The 13th Parliament was dissolved by Prime Minister Najib Razak on 7 April 2018. It would have been automatically dissolved on 24 June 2018, five years after the first meeting of the first session of the 13th Parliament of Malaysia on 24 June 2013.

A by-election was held for the Dewan Rakyat seat of P67 Kuala Kangsar, a parliamentary seat located in the state of Perak, Malaysia on 18 June 2016 following the nomination day on 5 June 2016. The seat fell vacant after death of member of parliament Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad, who died in a helicopter crash on May 5, 2016 while campaigning in the Sarawak state election. In the 2013 general election, Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad won the seat with a majority of 1,082 votes beating Khalil Idham Lim Abdullah of Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) and independent candidate Kamilia Ibrahim. This by-election was held concurrently with the Sungai Besar by-election for the same reason.

The 14th Terengganu State election was held on 9 May 2018, concurrently with the 2018 Malaysian general election.. The previous state election was held on 5 May 2013. The state assemblymen is elected to 5 years term each.

A by-election was held on 4 August 2018 for the Selangor State Legislative Assembly seat of Sungai Kandis. The seat became vacant after the death of the former assemblyman, Mat Shuhaimi Shafiei from lymphatic cancer on 2 July 2018. Mat Shuhaimi was a member of the Parti Keadilan Rakyat, a component party of the state ruling Pakatan Harapan coalition. He won his seat after defeating BN, PAS and PRM candidates with a majority of 12,480 votes. It is the first by-election since the historic May 2018 general election that saw the first-ever change of federal government since independence.

The seat became vacant after the Election Court on 30 November 2018 declared the incumbent Barisan Nasional (BN) Member of Parliament of Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) Dato' Sivarraajh Chandran's victory in the seat null and void because it was found that corrupt practices were committed in the 14th general election. The court found Sivarraajh guilty of bribing of between RM30 and RM1,000 to the Orang Asli community voters prior to the election as established beyond reasonable doubt in the election petition filed by the Democratic Action Party (DAP) candidate M. Manogaran.

The 1997 Semerak by-election was a by-election that was held on 11 August 1997 for the Kelantan State Legislative Assembly seat of Semerak. It was called following the death of its PAS assemblyman Sulaiman Ahmad. Sulaiman won the seat on 1995 Malaysian general election under Angkatan Perpaduan Ummah banner against Ismail Awang of Barisan Nasional and Musa Salleh of AKIM with a majority of 248.
