A by-election was held for the Dewan Rakyat seat of P67 Kuala Kangsar , a parliamentary seat located in the state of Perak, Malaysia on 18 June 2016 following the nomination day on 5 June 2016. [1] The seat fell vacant after death of member of parliament Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad, who died in a helicopter crash on May 5, 2016 while campaigning in the Sarawak state election. [2] In the 2013 general election, Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad won the seat with a majority of 1,082 votes beating Khalil Idham Lim Abdullah of Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) and independent candidate Kamilia Ibrahim. [3] This by-election was held concurrently with the Sungai Besar by-election for the same reason.

The Barisan Nasional candidate for Kuala Kangsar was United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) member Mastura Mohd Yazid who is the widow of the former MP Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad. [4] [5] The PAS candidate chosen was Najihatussalehah Ahmad. [6] The opposition coalition Pakatan Harapan chose National Trust Party (AMANAH) vice chairman Ahmad Termizi Ramli as their candidate. [7] Izat Bukhary Ismail Bukhary joined the race as an Independent on the nomination day. [8]

Results

Mastura Mohd Yazid managed to retain the seat for Barisan Nasional with a majority of 6,969 votes beating 3 other candidates. [9] [10]

Tan Sri Dato' Hajah Noriah binti Kasnon was the Member of Parliament of Malaysia for the Sungai Besar constituency in Selangor, Malaysia. She was a member of the United Malay National Organisation (UMNO) party and was a Deputy Minister in the Barisan Nasional (BN) governments of Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Najib Razak.

Dr. Haji Abdul Ghani bin Ahmad JP is a Malaysian politician who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Jerlun since November 2022. He served as Member of the Kedah State Executive Council (EXCO) in the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) state administration under former Menteri Besar Azizan Abdul Razak from March 2010 to the collapse of the PR state administration in May 2013 as well as Member of the Kedah State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Ayer Hitam from November 1999 to March 2004 and again from March 2008 to May 2018. He is a member of the Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS), a component party of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) and formerly PR coalitions.

General elections were held in Malaysia on Wednesday, 9 May 2018. At stake were all 222 seats in the Dewan Rakyat, the lower house of parliament. The 13th Parliament was dissolved by Prime Minister Najib Razak on 7 April 2018. It would have been automatically dissolved on 24 June 2018, five years after the first meeting of the first session of the 13th Parliament of Malaysia on 24 June 2013.

He also served as the Chairman of Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB). He was a native of Kuala Kangsar. Wan Khair-il Anuar was a member of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) in the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition.

This is a list of the members of the Dewan Rakyat of the 13th Parliament of Malaysia. The opposition coalition Pakatan Rakyat that contested the general elections in 2013 was dissolved after series of disagreements between two main parties, Democratic Action Party (DAP) and Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS). A new opposition coalition Pakatan Harapan was formed by the DAP, People's Justice Party (PKR) and newly formed party National Trust Party (AMANAH), consisting of ex-PAS members. Several ex-UMNO members have also formed their own party Malaysian United Indigenous Party (BERSATU) and have signed an electoral pact with Pakatan Harapan to contest the future general election and ensure straight fights against Barisan Nasional. On 20 March 2017 BERSATU officially became a member of Pakatan Harapan.

A by-election was held for the Kelantan State Assembly seat of Chempaka on 22 March 2015 following the nomination day on 10 March 2015. The seat fell vacant after the death of the incumbent five-term assemblyman and former Menteri Besar of Kelantan, Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat from prostate cancer in Kubang Kerian, Kelantan on 12 February 2015. Niz Aziz was a member of PAS, part of the Pakatan Rakyat coalition. Nik Abdul Aziz had retained the seat in the 13th General Election in 2013 by beating Wan Razman Wan Abd Razak of the Barisan Nasional with a majority of 6,500 votes.

The seat fell vacant after death of member of parliament Noriah Kasnon, who died in a helicopter crash on May 5, 2016 while campaigning in the Sarawak state election. Noriah Kasnon was also the Plantations Industries and Commodities Deputy Minister. In the 2013 general election, Noriah Kasnon won the seat with a majority of 399 votes beating Mohamed Salleh M Hussin of Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS). This by-election was held concurrently with the Kuala Kangsar by-election for the same reason.

A by-election was held on 8 September 2018 for the Selangor State Legislative Assembly seat of Seri Setia. The seat became vacant after the sudden death of the incumbent assemblyman and Selangor state executive councillor, Shaharuddin Badaruddin on 2 August 2018 from colon cancer. Shaharuddin was a member of the Parti Keadilan Rakyat or People's Justice Party (PKR), a component party of the state ruling Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition. This was the third by-election for the Selangor State Assembly since the 2018 general election, after the Sungai Kandis and Balakong by-elections. Shaharuddin won the seat with a majority of 19,372 votes, defeating BN's Yusoff M Haniff, PAS's Mohd Ghazali Daud and independent S Vigneswaran. This by-election was held on the same day as the Balakong by-election. The nomination day was on 18 August 2018, with a 21-day campaigning period until election day.
