The 1997 Semerak by-election was a by-election that was held on 11 August 1997 for the Kelantan State Legislative Assembly seat of Semerak. It was called following the death of its PAS assemblyman Sulaiman Ahmad, aused by stroke. Sulaiman won the seat on 1995 Malaysian general election under Angkatan Perpaduan Ummah banner against Ismail Awang of Barisan Nasional and Musa Salleh of AKIM with a majority of 248. [1]
Kamarudin Mohd Nor of Barisan Nasional wrest the seat against PAS Wan Mohd Fauzi with a majority of 778 votes. Mohd Din of AKIM lost his deposit, after only garnering 27 votes. [2]
Barisan Nasional nominated Pasir Puteh UMNO Chairmen, Kamarudin Mohd Nor. [3] On 31st July, PAS nominated local business man, Wan Mohd Fauzi. [4] [5] AKIM nominated its vice president, Mohd Din.

The National Front, officially Barisan Nasional (BN), is a political coalition of Malaysia that was founded in 1974 as a coalition of centre-right and right-wing political parties to succeed the Alliance Party. It is the third largest political coalition with 30 seats in the Dewan Rakyat after Pakatan Harapan (PH) with 82 seats and Perikatan Nasional (PN) with 74 seats.
Kuala Terengganu by-election of 2009 was held on 17 January 2009 after the death of the incumbent Member of Parliament, Razali Ismail. In the 2008 election, Datuk Razali won by a slim 628 vote majority, defeating Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) heavyweight Mohamad Sabu and 89-year-old independent candidate, Maimun Yusuf. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Barisan Nasional were confident that Barisan Nasional would retain the Kuala Terengganu parliamentary seat. The Prime Minister had rejected the assumption that there would be a big swing by the voters to the Opposition. Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim stated that Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and the Democratic Action Party (DAP) would support any candidate that PAS picked. He was optimistic that Pakatan Rakyat would win in Kuala Terengganu if all its coalition parties worked hard against Barisan Nasional. In the 2008 election Razali, a government minister of the UMNO party, defeated a PAS opposition candidate by 628 votes. For the by-election PAS nominated state assemblyman Mohd Abdul Wahid Endut, while Barisan Nasional nominated Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh. Mohd Abdul won the by-election by 2,631 votes.
Kamarudin bin Jaffar is a Malaysian politician who served as the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for the second term in the Barisan Nasional (BN) administration under former Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob and former Minister Saifuddin Abdullah from August 2021 to the collapse of the BN administration in November 2022 and the first term in the Perikatan Nasional (PN) administration under former Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and former Minister Hishammudin Hussein from March 2020 to the collapse of the PN administration in August 2021, Member of Parliament (MP) for Bandar Tun Razak from May 2018 to November 2022, Deputy Minister of Transport in the Pakatan Harapan (PH) administration under former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad and former Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook from July 2018 to the collapse of the PH administration in February 2020 and MP for Tumpat from November 1999 to May 2018. He is a member of the Malaysian United Indigenous Party (BERSATU), a component party of the PN coalition and was a member of the People's Justice Party (PKR), a component party of the PH coalition, Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS), a former component party of the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) and Barisan Alternatif (BA) coalitions and United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), a component party of the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition.
This is a list of the members of the Dewan Rakyat of the 13th Parliament of Malaysia. The opposition coalition Pakatan Rakyat that contested the general elections in 2013 was dissolved after series of disagreements between two main parties, Democratic Action Party (DAP) and Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS). A new opposition coalition Pakatan Harapan was formed by the DAP, People's Justice Party (PKR) and newly formed party National Trust Party (AMANAH), consisting of ex-PAS members. Several ex-UMNO members have also formed their own party Malaysian United Indigenous Party (BERSATU) and have signed an electoral pact with Pakatan Harapan to contest the future general election and ensure straight fights against Barisan Nasional. On 20 March 2017 BERSATU officially became a member of Pakatan Harapan.
Wan Mokhtar bin Wan Ahmad was a Malaysian politician who served as the 11th Menteri Besar of Terengganu. In office for 25 years, he was the longest-serving head of the Terengganu state government. He also served as Member of Parliament (MP) for Kemaman and Member of the Terengganu State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Cukai.
A by-election was held for the Dewan Rakyat seat of P67 Kuala Kangsar, a parliamentary seat located in the state of Perak, Malaysia on 18 June 2016 following the nomination day on 5 June 2016. The seat fell vacant after death of member of parliament Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad, who died in a helicopter crash on May 5, 2016 while campaigning in the Sarawak state election. In the 2013 general election, Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad won the seat with a majority of 1,082 votes beating Khalil Idham Lim Abdullah of Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) and independent candidate Kamilia Ibrahim. This by-election was held concurrently with the Sungai Besar by-election for the same reason.
The Malaysian United Indigenous Party is a nationalist political party in Malaysia. The party was preceded by the United Indigenous Association of Malaysia and founded by members of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) rebel group Gabungan Ketua Cawangan Malaysia. The National Concord was a Malaysian political coalition that was formed between the Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) and United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) against the then-ruling Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition which had come into power after the 2018 Malaysian general election (GE14). The political cooperation between the two largest Malay/Muslim-based parties was officialised with the signing of the Piagam Muafakat Nasional. The five-point charter was signed by PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and UMNO president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in the Himpunan Penyatuan Ummah held at Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC), Kuala Lumpur on 14 September 2019. Its main aim is to unite the Malay/Muslim community or Ummah for electoral purposes.

Saari bin Sungib is a Malaysian politician who served as Member of the Selangor State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Hulu Kelang from March 2008 to August 2023. He is a member, State Deputy Chairman of Selangor and Division Chief of Gombak of the National Trust Party (AMANAH), a component party of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition and was a member of the Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS), a former component party of Pakatan Rakyat (PR) coalition as well as member of the People's Justice Party (PKR), a former component party of the Barisan Alternatif (BA) coalition. He is also the father of Anfaal Saari, the Member of the Selangor State Executive Council (EXCO), Taman Templer MLA and Deputy Women Chief of AMANAH.

Mohd Syahir bin Che Sulaiman is a Malaysian politician and economic analyst who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bachok since November 2022. He is a member of the Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS), a component party of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition. He has also been political secretary to the president of PAS Abdul Hadi Awang, Deputy Chairman of the International Committee of PAS since 2019 and Assistant Secretary-General of PAS since 2020. He was the youth strategic director of PAS from 2015 to 2019, Division Deputy Youth Chief of PAS of Serdang from 2017 to 2019 and branch chief of PAS of Bandar Tun Hussein Onn from 2011 to 2015.

The 1997 Pulai Chondong by-election was a by-election that was held on 6 January 1997 for the Kelantan State Legislative Assembly seat of Pulai Chondong. It was called following the death of its Parti Melayu Semangat 46 assemblyman Noor Ahmad, who recently moved to UMNO about a month before. Ahmad won the seat on 1995 Malaysian general election under Angkatan Perpaduan Ummah banner against Nooruddin Hassan of Barisan Nasional with a majority of 1,461.
The 1997 Melekek by-election was a by-election that was held on 14 June 1997 for the Malacca State Legislative Assembly seat of Melekek. It was called following the death of its Barisan Nasional assemblyman Mohd Zin Abdul Ghani by stroke. Zin won the seat on three previous general election.
