The 2025 season was the 4th season for the Indian Premier League franchise Lucknow Super Giants. They were one of the ten teams that competed in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL). The team finished in seventh place in the previous season. [5] Ahead of the season, Rishabh Pant was appointed as the captain. The team was coached by Justin Langer.
The Lucknow Super Giants were the fifth team to be eliminated from the 2025 IPL and finished the season in seventh place with six wins from 14 matches. At the IPL end of season awards, Lucknow's Nicholas Pooran was awarded for most sixes. [6]
The 2025 Indian Premier League was the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), a professional Twenty20 (T20) cricket league held in India, organized by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). [7] The Lucknow Super Giants were one of the four active franchises to not have won the IPL title prior to 2025. [8] The tournament featured ten teams competing in 74 matches from 22 March to 3 June 2025 across 13 venues in India. [9] [10] Lucknow played all their home matches at Ekana Cricket Stadium [11]
Franchises were allowed to retain a maximum of six players from their squad, including a maximum of five recent international players. [12] Franchises were required to submit their retention lists before 31 October 2024. [13] Lucknow retained five players, but did not retain their prior captain KL Rahul. [14] [15]

The season's auction took place in November 2024 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. [17] The auction purse for each franchise was set at ₹120 crore (US$14 million), with franchises deducting an amount from the purse for every retained player. [18] [19] Lucknow had a purse remaining of ₹69 crore (US$8.2 million). [20] Franchises that did not retain six players, were allowed Right-to-Match (RTM) cards at the auction for each player not retained. [21] Lucknow had one card available. [22] Lucknow bought nineteen players in the auction, including nine capped players and six overseas players. [23] The franchise used its RTM card to buy back Shamar Joseph for ₹75 lakh (US$89,000).
