The women's 5000 metres event at the 1995 Summer Universiade was held on 29 August at the Hakatanomori Athletic Stadium in Fukuoka, Japan. [1] It was the first time that this event was contested at the Universiade, replacing the 3000 metres.

The 1960 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XVII Olympiad, were an international multi-sport event held from 25 August to 11 September 1960 in Rome, Italy. Rome had previously been awarded the administration of the 1908 Summer Olympics, but following the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 1906, the city had no choice but to decline and pass the honour to London. The Soviet Union won the most gold and overall medals at the 1960 Games.
Anthony Robin Le Clerc Mosse is a former New Zealand swimmer who competed at two Summer Olympic Games and three Commonwealth Games. He won one Olympic bronze medal, as well as two gold medals, one silver and one bronze at the Commonwealth Games.

Katerine Savard is a Canadian competitive swimmer who specializes in women's butterfly events and freestyle relay. She holds several Canadian national records in the butterfly over the 50-, 100-, and 200-metre distances in both the short and long courses. Savard also holds the Canadian junior butterfly record in the 200-metre event. She won the gold medal at the Summer Universiade in the 100-metre butterfly in 2012, while also garnering a medal in the 50-metre butterfly at the 2013 Universiade. Savard is the reigning Commonwealth Games champion in the 100-metre butterfly in Glasgow, where she set the Commonwealth record in the process. At the same games she also won a bronze as a member of the women's 4×100-metre medley relay team.

Danas Rapšys is a Lithuanian swimmer. He is a one-time Olympian, a multiple-time Lithuanian record holder in the men's backstroke, freestyle and butterfly, and a double swimming champion at the 2017 Summer Universiade in Taipei, Taiwan. Rapšys is also a member of Panevežys Žemyna Club, and is coached and trained by Ina Paipelienė.

Yang Chun-han, born 1 January 1997, is a Taiwanese athlete of Amis descent specialising in sprinting events. He won two medals at the 2017 Asian Championships, gold in the 200 and bronze in the 100 metres. Yang won gold in the 100 metres at the 2017 Summer Universiade. He holds the national records in both the 100 and 200 metres.
