Basenj also known as Basinj is a village in Badakhshan Province in north-eastern Afghanistan. [1]

On 11 August 2021, Taliban militants reportedly captured the area in addition to capturing the capital of Badakhshan Province; Fayzabad.

This district borders the Kuf Ab, Raghistan, Shighnnan, and Nusay districts, along with some districts in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Province, Tajikistan, including Vanj, Rushon, and Shughnon. The district was historically part of the Darwaz principality, a semi-independent statelet ruled by a mir.

Raghistan District is one of the 28 districts of Badakhshan Province in eastern Afghanistan. Located in the northwestern portion of the province, Ragh is home to approximately 44,004 residents. The capital city is Ziraki.
