The Basketball Bundesliga GmbH is a governing body for basketball in Germany. It directs the 18 professional German basketball sports clubs of the top-tier German Basketball League.
The Basketball Bundesliga BBL was founded 29 October 1996, as a private league company, with league independence from the German Basketball Federation (DBB). In 1998, the BBL became the BBL GmbH, of which the AG BBL e.V., comprising the clubs of the German Basketball League, own a 74% controlling share, and the German Basketball Federation (DBB) with 26%.

The Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) (English language: Federal Basketball League), for sponsorship reasons named easyCredit BBL, is the highest level league of professional club basketball in Germany. The league comprises 18 teams. A BBL season is split into a league stage and a playoff stage. At the end of the league stage, the top eight teams qualify for the playoff stage, and the teams positioned in the 17th and 18th places are relegated to a lower-tier league. The playoffs are played in a "Best of five" format. The winning team of the final round are crowned the German Champions of that season.

The Damen-Basketball-Bundesligen GmbH (DBBL) is a company founded in June 2001, which manages the first and the two second federal leagues of women's basketball in Germany. The shareholders of the GmbH are AG 1. DBBL, AG 2. DBBL and DBB. DBBL is based in Frankfurt am Main. Philipp Reuner has been the managing director since August 2020. His predecessors were Claus-Arwed Lauprecht, Achim Barbknecht, Birgit Kunel and Jürgen Kofner. The DBBL is responsible for marketing, public relations and the organization of game operations in the top leagues and the cup competition of German women's basketball. In 2020 it was decided to relocate the DBBL office from Bergisch Gladbach to Frankfurt.

Regionalliga, the 5th-tier level 2. Regionalliga, and the 6th-tier level Landesliga Oberliga.

The Damen-Basketball-Bundesliga (DBBL) is the premier women's basketball championship in Germany. It was founded in 1947. DJK Agon 08 Düsseldorf and BTV 1846 Wuppertal are the most successful teams in the competition with twelve and eleven titles respectively, while TSV 1880 Wasserburg and Saarlouis Royals have dominated the competition in recent years. The leading teams from the DBBL enjoyed some success in FIBA Europe competitions in the 1980s and the 1990s, with Wuppertal winning the 1996 European Cup and Agon also reaching the competition's final in 1983 and 1986. The competition had been directly run by the German Basketball Federation (DBB) until 2001. On 21 June That year, the Damen-Basketball-Bundesligen GmbH was founded, an association which runs the first and second highest levels of women's club-level basketball in Germany.
