The Cabinet of Morocco is the chief executive body of the Kingdom of Morocco.

Contents

The Cabinet is usually composed of some 25 ministers and 5 to 10 "Secretaries of State" and "Minister Delegates". It is headed by the Head of the Government since August 2011), who is appointed by the King of Morocco from the party that achieved a plurality in the parliamentary elections. The Cabinet's ministers are chosen by the PM, after consultation with other parties forming the Government coalition, then validated and appointed by the King. As of September 10, 2021, the current government is headed by Aziz Akhannouch, who was appointed by King Mohamed VI to form a new government after leading the results of the 2021 general election. [1] [2] [3] On 7 October 2021, the new cabinet of 24 ministers, which included 7 women, was sworn in. [4]

Despite self-identifying as social-democratic, the party has been described as pro-business and liberal, and the party has a history of cooperating with two other parties with a liberal orientation, the Popular Movement and the Constitutional Union, since 1993. Since September 2021, it has been the country's ruling party.

The liberal Authenticity and Modernity Party took second place with 87 seats, a net loss of 15 seats. The centre-right Istiqlal Party gained 35 seats and took third place with 81 seats total. The governing Justice and Development Party suffered an electoral wipeout and won only 13 seats, a net loss of 112 seats for the party.

Mohamed Hajoui is the Moroccan General Secretary of Government. He was appointed as secretary on 5 April 2017 under prime minister Saadeddine Othmani, and retained his position under prime minister Aziz Akhannouch in 2021.
