Colston Loveland (born April 9, 2004) is an American football tight end for the Michigan Wolverines. He was an All-American in 2024, won a national championship in 2023, and was an All-Big Ten selection both years.
Loveland was born on April 9, 2004, and grew up on a farm in Bliss, Idaho. [1] [2] He attended Gooding High School in Gooding, Idaho, where he starred in basketball and football. [3] He caught 235 passes (91 as a sophomore) for 3,141 yards and 35 touchdowns at Gooding. [4]
As a senior, he played tight end and linebacker, catching 62 passes for 968 yards and 14 touchdowns, leading the Gooding Senators (9-1) to the Class 3A semifinals. Loveland rushed for 352 yards and four touchdowns on 33 carries, and also recorded 57 tackles, 18 tackles for a loss, 5.5 sacks and two interceptions on defense. [5]
Loveland was rated as a four star recruit, a top 250 ranked player in the country and the No. 1 player in Idaho, winning the 2021 Idaho Gatorade Player of the Year award. [6] [7] [8] He received offers from Michigan, Alabama, LSU, Auburn, Utah, Oregon State, Arizona State, Nevada, Idaho, Idaho State, and Utah State. [9] [10]
In July 2021, Loveland committed to play college football at the University of Michigan. [11] [12] He graduated and enrolled early in January 2022. [4] [13] He appeared in his first game for Michigan versus Colorado State on September 3, 2022, and had two receptions for 18 yards. [14] In the 2022 season, Loveland had 16 receptions for 235 yards and two touchdowns. [15] Against Ohio State, he caught a 45-yard pass thrown by J. J. McCarthy at the beginning of the third quarter for his first collegiate touchdown. [16] He caught a touchdown the following week in the Big Ten Championship Game, helping Michigan win its second consecutive conference championship. [17]
In the 2023 season, Loveland played and started all 15 games as a sophomore for Michigan. [15] He finished the season with 45 catches, 649 receiving yards, and four receiving touchdowns. [15] He was named a first-team All-Big Ten selection by the coaches and a second-team by the media. [18] He helped Michigan finish the season 15-0, including winning the Big Ten Championship, [19] Rose Bowl, [20] and the national championship. [21] [22] Loveland was the leading receiver for the Wolverines in the national championship game, with three catches for 64 yards. [23] Loveland became the first Idahoan to be a part of a national championship squad since Jorrell Bostrom for Auburn in 2010. [24]
Entering his junior season, Loveland was ranked as the best tight end in college football prior to the 2024 season. [25] [26] [27] He was considered to be a first round pick in the 2025 NFL draft. [28] [29] [30]
In his first game of the season versus Fresno State, Loveland had eight receptions for 87 yards and a touchdown. [31] In the week two loss against Texas, he was again Michigan’s leading receiver, finishing with eight receptions for 70 yards, though he had a costly fumble recovered by the Longhorns. [32] In week six versus Washington, Loveland had six receptions for 33 yards and a touchdown. [33] In week nine versus Michigan State, Loveland had six receptions for 67 yards, two touchdowns and a two-point conversion, as Michigan defeated the Spartans 24-17. [34] It was his second consecutive two-touchdown game against Michigan State, matching his 2023 performance. [35]
In week ten versus Oregon, he had his first career game with over 100 receiving yards, as he caught seven passes for 112 yards. [36] In week thirteen versus Northwestern, Loveland had three receptions for 22 yards and a touchdown. [37] With his three receptions, he passed Bennie Joppru (53 receptions in 2002) for the most receptions by a tight end in a season in Michigan football history, finishing with 56. [38] On November 26, Loveland was named one of three finalist for the 2024 John Mackey Award, given to the best tight end in college football, joining Harold Fannin Jr. of Bowling Green and Tyler Warren of Penn State. He was the second-ever Wolverine to be a finalist for the award, joining 2016 winner Jake Butt. [39] Loveland missed the last game of the season against Ohio State with an injury. He finished the season playing in ten games, totaling 56 receptions, 582 yards and five touchdowns. [40] [41] Loveland was named a second-team All-Big Ten selection, behind Tyler Warren. [42] He also earned a second-team All-American selection by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA). [43]
On December 13, 2024, Loveland declared for the 2025 NFL draft, foregoing his senior year. He finished his career at the University of Michigan with a 35-6 team record, two Big Ten championships, one national championship, All-American honors, All-Big Ten honors twice, and as the school’s single-season record holder for receptions by a tight end. In his three years, he also finished tied for second in career touchdowns, third in career receptions and third in career receiving yards all-time among Michigan tight ends. [44]

Raymond Christopher Perry is an American former professional football player who was a running back for five seasons in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Michigan Wolverines, receiving consensus All-American honors in 2003. He was selected by the Cincinnati Bengals in the first round of the 2004 NFL draft, and played his entire NFL career for the Bengals.
Marquise Walker is an American former professional football player who was a wide receiver and punt returner who signed to play in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Michigan Wolverines, setting many of the school's receiving records and becoming an All-American in 2001, when he led the Big Ten Conference in receptions. In 2004, Braylon Edwards surpassed most of his school records. In high school, Walker set several important New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) football records for receptions and reception yardage. All of these records have since been broken. Walker is remembered for a pair of spectacular one-handed catches during the 2001 NCAA Division I-A football season.
The 1991 Michigan Wolverines football team represented the University of Michigan in the 1991 NCAA Division I-A football season. The team's head coach was Gary Moeller. The Wolverines played their home games at Michigan Stadium. The team was undefeated in the Big Ten Conference and was led by Heisman Trophy-winner Desmond Howard, Butkus Award-winner Erick Anderson and national statistical champion Elvis Grbac. The team won the fourth of five consecutive Big Ten championships. The team lost to split national champion Washington Huskies in the 1992 Rose Bowl.

Roy Randolph Roundtree is a former American football wide receiver and current assistant coach for McNeese Cowboys football. He was a 2013 preseason member of the Cincinnati Bengals and played college football for the Michigan Wolverines football team where he spent his redshirt senior season with the 2012 team. In 2012, he was an All-Big Ten honorable mention selection. He was a 2011 Fred Biletnikoff Award preseason watchlist honoree. He was a Fred Biletnikoff Award preseason watchlist honoree in 2010, and set Michigan's single-game receiving record with nine catches for 246 yards against Illinois that November. Roundtree was the team's leading receiver in both the 2009 and 2010 seasons. He finished first in the Big Ten Conference in receiving yards in 2010 for Conference games, and was a second team All Conference selection. While in high school, he was named the 2007 Ohio Division II Offensive Player of the Year.
Kenneth Earl "Junior" Hemingway Jr. is an American former professional football wide receiver. He was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2012 NFL draft. He completed his redshirt senior season in 2011 for the Michigan Wolverines football team. He led the 2011 team in receptions and receiving yards, and was tied for the lead in receiving touchdowns. Hemingway was the 2010 and 2011 Big Ten Conference leader in yards per reception, ranking third in all of Division I Football Bowl Subdivision as a senior. He received 2011 All-Big Ten honorable mention and was the 2012 Sugar Bowl Most Outstanding Player.
Devin Akeem Funchess is an American former football wide receiver and current professional basketball player for the Caribbean Storm Islands of the Baloncesto Profesional Colombiano. He played college football for the Michigan Wolverines as a tight end, and was selected by the Carolina Panthers in the second round of the 2015 NFL draft. He was also a member of the Indianapolis Colts, Green Bay Packers, San Francisco 49ers and Detroit Lions.
Blake Nolan Corum is an American professional football running back and kickoff returner for the Los Angeles Rams of the National Football League (NFL). He was a two-time All-American for the Michigan Wolverines. Corum is the all-time leader for the University of Michigan in rushing touchdowns with 58, including the single season record of 27 rushing touchdowns in 2023, culminating in a national championship. He was selected by the Rams in the third round of the 2024 NFL draft.
Donovan Edwards is an American football running back for the Michigan Wolverines. He won three consecutive Big Ten Conference titles and a national championship in 2023. Edwards is the only player in college football history to have multiple 40-yard touchdown runs in a national championship game.

The 2022 Michigan Wolverines football team represented the University of Michigan in the East Division of the Big Ten Conference during the 2022 NCAA Division I FBS football season. Led by eighth-year head coach Jim Harbaugh, the Wolverines compiled an overall record of 12–0 in the regular season with a mark of 9–0 in conference play, winning the Big Ten East Division title for the second consecutive season. Michigan beat Purdue in the Big Ten Championship Game to repeat as conference champions. The Wolverines advanced to the College Football Playoff (CFP) for the second straight year, where they lost to TCU in the Fiesta Bowl for the CFP Semifinal on December 31.

The 39th annual ReliaQuest Bowl will feature the Michigan Wolverines of the Big Ten Conference, and the Alabama Crimson Tide of the Southeastern Conference; a rematch of the previous season’s Rose Bowl. The game is scheduled to begin at 12:00 noon EST and will air on ESPN. It is one of the 2024–25 bowl games concluding the 2024 FBS football season.
