Crab Wood is a 73-hectare (180-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest west of Winchester in Hampshire. [1] [2] An area of 37.8 hectares (93 acres) is also a Local Nature Reserve. [3] [4]
This site has been wooded at least since the sixteenth century. It has a hazel layer which has been coppiced, large oaks and some beech, ash and birch trees. There is a rich butterfly fauna, including purple emperors. [5]
Weir Wood Reservoir is a 153.5-hectare (379-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest west of Forest Row in East Sussex. It is in High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and an area of 32.6 hectares is a Local Nature Reserve which is owned by Southern Water and managed by East Sussex County Council and Southern Water.
