ESA Television is the television network of the European Space Agency. It is a satellite-only broadcast network which periodically transmits programming via Eutelsat's Eutelsat 9A satellite to Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East as part of the Europe by Satellite public information service. In addition, live events are transmitted via different Eutelsat satellites covering the European continent.
In the years leading to 2008, ESA did not broadcast simultaneously over the internet, but did (and does) make programming available for download via an FTP website, which requires users to log in to access material. A username and password is made available by registering for the ESA Television Notification Service.
In 2008, ESA began webstreaming some activities using the Livestream.com platform. The channel aims to provide coverage of launches, astronauts and space exploration, and provides regular webcasts from ESA establishments in Europe, launches from Europe's spaceport in Kourou and from anywhere that ESA missions fly. NASA TV was also available via various cable, satellite, and over-the-top media services worldwide. The network was formally created in the early 1980s to provide NASA managers and engineers with real-time video of missions. NASA has operated a television service since the beginning of the space program for archival purposes, and to provide media outlets with video footage.
Eutelsat I F-1, also known as European Communications Satellite 1 (ECS-1) is a decommissioned communications satellite operated by the European Telecommunications Satellite Organisation (Eutelsat). Launched in 1983, it was operated in geostationary orbit at a longitude of 13° East, before moving to several other locations later in its operational life, before it was finally decommissioned in 1996. It was the first of five satellites launched to form the first-generation Eutelsat constellation.

Developed for France Telecom it was transferred soon after its launch to the operator Eutelsat. It entered operational service in early September 2002. Its anticipated working life was 15 years. It was decommissioned in January 2023.

The majority of live news streams are produced as world news broadcasts, by major television networks, or by major news channels; however, there are some live news streams which are produced by individual local television channels as well.
Orby TV was an American direct broadcast satellite provider based in Burbank, California. Founded in 2019, Orby transmitted digital satellite television and audio to households within the United States and territories on Pan-American satellite Eutelsat 117 West A. The company's primary competitors were Dish Network, DirecTV and cable television providers. Orby TV's CEO was Michael Thornton, the former chief executive officer for Starz, as well as former Programming Director at DirecTV. On March 1, 2021, the company shut down and service ended abruptly due to the company running out of operating capital. The company website was updated with a short text page recommending customers switch to DISH Network through a limited-time partnership discount.
