The Empire Manufacturing Company Building located in the Old Fourth Ward neighborhood of Atlanta, Georgia.
The building was built in 1939 by the North Carolina firm of Jackson & Edney for the National Linen Service Corporation which in 1962, merged with Zep to become National Service Industries, Inc. In the late 1990s, renovation of the building was started to convert the building into loft office space as a part of the Southern Dairies redevelopment. In February 2002, the building was added the National Register of Historic Places.
The building was built with "a clear span truss system that permitted a 95-foot span without any supporting members to break up the floor space". It has Art Deco architecture. [2]
The Florence Mill, known later as the U. S. Envelope Building, is a former industrial facility located at 121 West Main Street in the Rockville section of Vernon, Connecticut. Developed in stages between 1864 and 1916, it exhibits changes in mill construction technology over that period, include a rare early example of Second Empire architecture. Now converted into senior housing, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.
The Bemis Bag Company Building is a historic building located in downtown Omaha, Nebraska. Built in 1887 in a commercial style, the building was designed by the prolific Omaha architecture firm of Mendelssohn and Lawrie. It was designated an Omaha Landmark on September 12, 1978, and was added to the National Register of Historic Places on January 11, 1985. In addition to its own listing on the NRHP, the Building is also included in the Warehouses in Omaha Multiple Property Submission.
The Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company Warehouse is a historic formerly commercial building at 150 Bay Street in Jersey City, Hudson County, New Jersey, United States. Built as a warehouse for The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company (A&P) in 1900, it is the major surviving remnant of a five-building complex of the nation's first major grocery store chain. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1978, and now houses a mix of residences and storage facilities.
The Dorchester-Milton Lower Mills Industrial District is a historic district on both sides of the Neponset River in the Dorchester area of Boston and in the town of Milton, Massachusetts. It encompasses an industrial factory complex, most of which was historically associated with the Walter Baker & Company, the first major maker of chocolate products in the United States. The industrial buildings of the district were built between about 1868 and 1947, and were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980, with a slight enlargement in 2001.
The Parkhill Mill is an historic mill complex at 1 Oak Hill Road in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. Built between 1885 and 1915, it was one of three mill complexes of the Parkill Company, one of the city's largest employers of the period. The mill complex was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2008. The complex has been restored and is used by a variety of public and private businesses, and as residential space.
The Michigan State Fair Riding Coliseum, Dairy Cattle Building, and Agricultural Building are three buildings located on the grounds of the Michigan State Fair in Detroit, Michigan. They were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
The Southbridge-Sargent Manufacturing District encompasses a collection of three 19th-century factory buildings near a historically important railroad junction in southern Worcester, Massachusetts. They were built near the intersection of Sargent and Gold Streets, just south of Southbridge Street. The location is close to a junction of three major railroads: the Boston and Albany, the Norwich and Worcester, and the New York, New Haven, and Hartford. The area was once a major industrial part of the city, but has lost many of its historic factory buildings in the 20th century.
The Whittall Mills is an historic industrial complex in southern Worcester, Massachusetts. The complex, which was built between 1870 and 1930, is a reminder of the large carpet manufacturing business that was once a major presence in the city. It is a complex of 15 brick buildings located on a bend of the Middle River, south of Crompton Street and just west of Interstate 290.
The Lover's Leap Bridge is a wrought-iron lenticular truss bridge over the Housatonic River located in Lovers Leap State Park in New Milford, Connecticut. Built in 1895 by the Berlin Iron Bridge Company, it is one of the last bridges built by the company and is a particularly ornate example of its work. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976 and is now open only for foot traffic.
The Missouri State Teachers Association Building is a historic building located at Columbia, Missouri. It was built in 1927 and houses the Missouri State Teachers Association Headquarters. The building is located on South 6th Street on the University of Missouri campus and is a two-story, Tudor Revival style brick building. It was the first building in the United States built specifically to house a state teachers association. A historical marker on the site commemorates the lands former tenant "Columbia College," the forerunner of the University of Missouri.
Southern Dairies is a loft office redevelopment of a former dairy production facility and the Empire Manufacturing Company Building located in the Old Fourth Ward neighborhood of Atlanta, Georgia.
The Minden Butter Manufacturing Company, also known as the Minden Creamery, is a historic creamery building located at 1617 Water St. in Minden, Nevada. Built in 1916, the creamery was designed by noted Nevada architect Frederic Joseph DeLongchamps. The creamery replaced the Minden Butter Manufacturing Company's first building, which was built in 1908, so the company would have space to pasteurize its products. The company sold butter and other produce under the Windmill brand name and eventually became the largest creamery in Nevada. While the company mainly shipped its goods to the San Francisco area, it also sold internationally; the year before the creamery was built, it sent a large shipment of butter to China. The creamery building is now used by Bently Nevada for manufacturing purposes.
Strasburg Stone and Earthenware Manufacturing Company, also known as the Strasburg Museum, Steam Pottery, and Southern Railroad Station, is a historic factory building located at Strasburg, Shenandoah County, Virginia. It was built in 1891, and is a two-story, 10 bay brick building originally constructed for the Strasburg Stone and Earthenware Manufacturing Company to make earthenware. It was converted to railroad use in 1913, at which time a one-story pent roof was added. The building is covered with a slate-clad hipped roof surmounted by a hipped monitor. The building served as a station and depot for the Southern Railroad.
The Sanford Whip Company is a historic factory located at 330 Elm Street in Westfield, Massachusetts. Built in 1883, it was owned and operated by one of the whip-making business that led Westfield to become widely known as "Whip City". The building for many years housed a novelty toy manufacturer after the market for whips declined in the early decades of the 20th century. The factory was listed individually on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008, and as part of an expanded Westfield Center Historic District in 2013. It has been converted into affordable housing space.
The Salmon Falls Mill Historic District encompasses a historic mill complex on Front Street in Rollinsford, New Hampshire. The complex includes four major structures and seven smaller ones, on about 14 acres (5.7 ha) of land along the Salmon Falls River. They were built between about 1840 and the mid-1860s, and have an unusual architectural unity, for additions made to the buildings were done with attention to matching design elements from the existing structures. The Number 2 Mill, built in 1848, was an early location where a turbine was used instead of a waterwheel to provide power to the mill machinery. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
The Oriental Textile Mill, located at 2201 Lawrence Street in the Houston Heights neighborhood of Houston, Texas, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on June 22, 1983.
The Clark Brothers Factory No. 1 was a historic industrial complex at 1331 South Main Street in the Milldale area of Southington, Connecticut. Developed beginning in the 1850s, it was one of the nation's largest sources of carriage bolts. The complex listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988 consisted of a group of brick buildings dating to 1893 and later. It has since been entirely demolished, and the land stands vacant and overgrown.
The California Powder Works Bridge is a historic covered bridge in Santa Cruz, California. It is a Smith truss bridge, built across the San Lorenzo River in 1872 by the California Powder Works, an explosives manufacturer whose factory complex stood on the river banks. The bridge was designated a National Historic Landmark in 2015 as one of the best-preserved national examples of the Smith truss. It is owned and maintained by the Paradise Park Masonic Club, and is open to pedestrian and vehicular traffic, with a posted weight limit of 5 tons.
The Frog Hollow Stone Mill, or just the Stone Mill, is a historic industrial building at 3 Mill Street in Middlebury, Vermont. Built in 1840, it is an important local reminder of the town's industrial past, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. It presently houses a restaurant, a public market, a co-working space and four lodging units.
Hilltop Farm is a historic country estate and gentleman's farm on Mapleton Avenue in northern Suffield, Connecticut. It was established in 1913 by George M. Hendee, one of the founders of the Indian Motorcycle Manufacturing Company, one of the nation's first motorcycle makers. Although its manor house was demolished in 1961, the estate retains many buildings built for Hendee, as well as a cluster of older farm buildings that he retained. The farm was listed as a historic district on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.
