Englemere Pond is a 26.1-hectare (64-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest on the southern outskirts of North Ascot in Berkshire. [1] [2] The site is also a Local Nature Reserve. It is owned by the Crown Estate and managed by Bracknell Forest Borough Council. [3] [4]

Geography

The nature reserve is situated between Martins Heron railway station and Ascot railway station. [5] It features a shallow acidic lake and marsh land. [5]

History

The land for most of its recorded history has been part of a great Royal Hunting Forest that surrounded Windsor Castle. [6]

In 1990 the site was declared as a local nature reserve by Bracknell Forest Borough Council. [3]

In August 2016 an unexploded old military shell was discovered in Englemere Pond and blown up in a controlled explosion by the police. [7]

River Glaven River in Norfolk, England

The River Glaven in the eastern English county of Norfolk is 10.5 mi (16.9 km) long and flows through picturesque North Norfolk countryside to the North Sea. Rising from a tiny headwater in Bodham the river starts 2+12 miles before Selbrigg Pond where three small streams combine. The scenic value of the Glaven valley is important to the tourist industry in North Norfolk. The river is one of over 200 chalk rivers in the world and one of 160 in the UK.

Sandhurst to Owlsmoor Bogs and Heaths is an 85.8-hectare (212-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) on the northern outskirts of Sandhurst in Berkshire. Part of the SSSI is Wildmoor Heath nature reserve, which is managed by the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust. and the SSSI is part of Thames Basin Heaths Special Protection Area.

Ham Common, Dorset

Ham Common is a Local Nature Reserve at Hamworthy, near Poole, Dorset. Located on the north west shores of Poole Harbour, it is predominantly a heathland site but includes many other habitats including waste ground, mixed woodland, and a freshwater lake. Parking for the site can be found at Hamworthy Beach with access to the waterside for kayaking etc, or above the common from Napier Road. Easy walking access from Haven Rockley Holiday Park.

Temple Copse Nature Reserve - Berkshire, United Kimgdom

Temple Copse is a 1.9-hectare (4.7-acre) Local Nature Reserve on the northwestern outskirts of Bracknell in Berkshire. It is owned and managed by Bracknell Forest Borough Council. Along with Jock's Copse and Tinkers Copse it forms part of what is known locally as The Three Copses.

Tinkers Copse

Tinkers Copse is a 1.9-hectare (4.7-acre) Local Nature Reserve on the northwestern outskirts of Bracknell in Berkshire. It is owned and managed by Bracknell Forest Borough Council. Along with Jock's Copse and Temple Copse it forms part of what is known locally as The Three Copses.

Lavells Lake

Lavells Lake is a 12.5-hectare (31-acre) Local Nature Reserve on the outskirts of Woodley, a suburb of Reading in Berkshire. It is owned by Wokingham District Council and managed by the council and The Friends of Lavell's Lake. The nature reserve is part of Dinton Pastures Country Park.
