The European Chess Club Cup is an annual chess tournament for club teams from Europe. It is organised by the European Chess Union. The competition is held with the Swiss system over seven rounds. It consists of two sections, open and women's, with each team fielding six and four players respectively at every match.
The tournament origins are from the former Yugoslavia, where chess club competitions were quite popular. In 1996, the women's competition was added.

The Chess Olympiad is a biennial chess tournament in which teams representing nations of the world compete. FIDE organises the tournament and selects the host nation. Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, FIDE held an Online Chess Olympiad in 2020 and 2021, with a rapid time control that affected players' online ratings.
Kateryna Aleksandrovna Lagno is a Russian chess grandmaster. A chess prodigy, she earned the title Woman Grandmaster (WGM) at the age of 12 years, four months and two days. In 2007, she was awarded the grandmaster title.
Pia Ann Rosa-Della Cramling is a Swedish chess grandmaster. Since the early 1980s, she has been one of the strongest female players in the world as well as having been the highest-rated woman in the FIDE World Rankings on three occasions. She was the clear number-one-rated woman in the January 1984 rating list, and joint number-one-rated woman in the January 1983 and July 1984 lists. In 1992, she became the fifth woman to earn the FIDE title of Grandmaster (GM).
Alexander Vasylovych Onischuk born September 3, 1975) is a chess player. He was awarded the title of Grandmaster by FIDE in 1994, and won the 2006 U.S. championship.
Helmut Pfleger is a German chess grandmaster and author. He was one of the most promising chess players in the 1960s and 1970s. From 1977 until 2005, Pfleger hosted a series of chess programs on German public TV, including Chess of the Grandmasters, often together with grandmaster Vlastimil Hort. By profession, he is a doctor of medicine.
Georg Meier is a German-Uruguayan chess grandmaster who represents Uruguay.
Matthias Blübaum is a German chess grandmaster. He won the European Individual Chess Championship in 2022.

Ilja Brener is a Russian-born German chess player. Since May 2007 he has been identified as an International Master by the World Chess Federation, having first broken through the necessary Elo ratings threshold of 2400 points at a tournament in Prague in May 2004.
The Chess Classics were chess tournaments initiated by Hans-Walter Schmitt, they were organized in the years 1994 to 2010. Among other things, the world champions in rapid chess and - also under rapid chess time control - the world champion in Chess960 and the computer Chess960 world champion were determined.

Margit Hennings is an Austrian chess player who three times won the Austrian Women's Chess Championship.
Hanna Marie Klek is a German chess player who holds the title of Woman Grandmaster. She won German Women's Chess Championship (2013).
Gertrud Nüsken was a German chess player who four times won East Germany Women's Chess Championships. She died in the Interflug plane crash near Königs Wusterhausen.
Isabel Hund is a German chess Chess Woman FIDE Master who two-times won West Germany Women's Chess Championship. Also she won Belgian Women's Chess Championship (1985).
Marina Manakov is a German chess Woman International Master of Russian origin who won Open German Women's Chess Championship (1992) and German Women's Chess Championship.
Elisabeth Hapala is an Austrian chess Woman International Master (WIM) (2024) who won Austrian Women's Chess Championship (2020).
