Everly was platted in 1884 and named Clark in honor of an area farmer. Another town in the state was already named Clarke, so the name was changed. There is no definitive proof, but the belief is that Everly was the name of the conductor on the railroad that brought many of the settlers to the area and that the town was named in his honor. Everly was incorporated on April 7, 1902.
