The Chicago and Northwestern Railroad Depot is a historic former railroad station in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. The station is located on the southeast corner of Forest Avenue and Brooke Street.
Rail service in Fond du Lac can be traced as far back as 1852, although Fond du Lac was also the namesake of the former Chicago, St. Paul and Fond du Lac Railroad, which existed from 1855 to 1859 before going bankrupt and being acquired by the Chicago and Northwestern Railway. In 1891 C&NW replaced the original station with the current one. The building's architect was Charles Sumner Frost. [2] A near-identical twin station was built, also in 1891, in DeKalb, Illinois.
The station served trains such as the Flambeau 400 and Peninsula 400 until it was closed in 1975, [2] [3] well after most intercity passenger service in the United States was turned over to Amtrak in 1971, which never used this station.
The Chicago and Northwestern Railroad Depot was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 10, 1990. Today[ when? ] it houses several small shops, and the former right-of-way is a rail trail. An active railroad line exists west of the station, but that line was operated by Soo Line and no longer contains a station nearby.

The Chicago and North Western was a Class I railroad in the Midwestern United States. It was also known as the "North Western". The railroad operated more than 5,000 miles (8,000 km) of track at the turn of the 20th century, and over 12,000 miles (19,000 km) of track in seven states before retrenchment in the late 1970s. The Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Depot Freight House and Train Shed, now officially named The Depot, is a historic railroad depot in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States. At its peak, the station served 29 trains per day. Following decline, the station was closed and eventually adapted into various other uses.
Amboy station is a former rail station in the city of Amboy, Lee County, Illinois, United States. The building was constructed as a headquarters building for the Illinois Central Railroad as well as a public train station for the fledgling city of Amboy in 1876. It was designed by railroad staff architect James Nocquet after a fire destroyed the original Illinois Central offices on the site. The building was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 1992 as the Amboy Illinois Central Depot.
The Wallace-Jagdfeld Octagon House built in 1860 is a historic octagonal house located at 171 Forest Avenue in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. The two-story home features clapboard siding, a front porch, and a central chimney.
Charles Sumner Frost was an American architect. He is best known as the architect of Navy Pier and for designing over 100 buildings for the Chicago and North Western Railway.

The Burlington, Cedar Rapids and Northern Railway (BCR&N) was a railroad that operated in the United States from 1876 to 1903. It was formed to take over the operations of the bankrupt Burlington, Cedar Rapids and Minnesota Railway, which was, in turn, the result of merging several predecessor lines, the construction of which began in 1869. The corporate headquarters were in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and it had operations in Iowa and in Minnesota. It was succeeded by the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railway.
The North Bank Depot Buildings, in central Portland, Oregon, United States, are a pair of buildings formerly used as a freight warehouse and passenger terminal for the Spokane, Portland and Seattle Railway (SP&S). Formed in 1905, the SP&S was commonly known as the North Bank Road during the period in which these buildings were in use. The Portland buildings' passenger facilities were also used by the Oregon Electric Railway after that railway was acquired by the SP&S. Located in what is now known as the Pearl District, the buildings were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996. They were in use by the SP&S and its successor, Burlington Northern Railroad, from 1908 until the 1980s. Only the east building was used as a passenger station, and this usage lasted from 1908 until 1931.
The Ashland Railroad Station is a historic train station at 39 Depot Street in Ashland, New Hampshire. Built in 1869 and remodeled in 1891, it is a well-preserved example of a rural 19th-century railroad station. It is now a museum operated by the Ashland Historical Society. The station was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.
Keokuk Union Depot is a historic train station on the west bank of the Mississippi River near downtown Keokuk, Iowa, United States. It was built from 1890 to 1891, and it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013.

The East Wilson Street Historic District includes remnants of businesses that grew around two railroad depots a half mile east of the capitol in Madison, Wisconsin, starting in the 1860s. A cluster of the hotel and saloon buildings from this district are still fairly intact, in contrast to Madison's other railroad station on West Washington. In 1986 the district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the State Register of Historic Places in 1989.
The Chicago and North Western Depot is a former railway station in Reedsburg, Wisconsin, which has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1984. The station served the Chicago and North Western Railway along the Twin Cities 400 line for much of its life. It was built in 1906, and operated as a passenger station until closing in 1963. Currently, it houses the Reedsburg Chamber of Commerce and the headquarters for the 400 State Trail. The railway line, however, remains in use by Wisconsin and Southern Railroad.
The Dwight Chicago and Alton depot is a former railroad depot in Dwight, Illinois, United States. The historic depot, in used by passengers from 1891 until 1971. It was again used from 1986 until 2016, by Amtrak, for service between Chicago and St. Louis. Passenger service moved from the former depot south to a new station in October 2016.
Madison station is a former railroad station in Madison, Wisconsin. The station served passenger and freight trains of the Chicago and North Western Railway (C&NW). Passenger service ended in 1965 and the passenger station and freight depot was bought by Madison Gas and Electric (MGE) and has been renovated to serve as offices. The station and freight depot are listed as contributing properties on the National Register of Historic Places East Wilson Street Historic District. The Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad had tracks paralleling the C&NW and also had a nearby passenger station that outlasted the C&NW station as an active station by several years.
DeKalb station is a former railway station in Downtown DeKalb, Illinois. It served passenger trains of the Chicago and North Western Railway (C&NW) along its main line between Chicago and Omaha. The station was designed by Charles Sumner Frost and Alfred Hoyt Granger in 1891 and closed for passenger service in 1971. The building still stands and is used by the Union Pacific Railroad for offices.
The Neenah station, otherwise known as the Neenah-Menasha station or Chicago and Northwestern Railroad Depot is a historic railroad station located at 500 N. Commercial Street in Neenah, Wisconsin. The station was built in 1892 for the Chicago and North Western Railway. The depot was designed by Charles Sumner Frost in the Richardsonian Romanesque style. Passenger service on the line was ceased in 1971.
