Friedrich Busse was a German fishing trawler that was requisitioned by the Kriegsmarine in the Second World War for use as a Vorpostenboot , serving as V 211 Friedrich Busse and V 212 Friedrich Busse. She was scuttled at Caen, Calvados, France in June 1944.
Friedrich Busse was salvaged in 1945 and used as the British salvage vessel King Hal before returning to service in 1946 as the Danish fishing trawler Tórhallur. She was sold to the Faroe Islands in 1948, then to West Germany in 1952, when she was renamed Delphin. She was sold to Greece in 1958 and was renamed Delfini in 1962. She ran aground and was wrecked at Casablanca, Morocco in 1972.
The ship was 50.53 metres (165 ft 9 in) long, with a beam of 8.19 metres (26 ft 10 in). She had a depth of 3.83 metres (12 ft 7 in) and a draught of 4.65 metres (15 ft 3 in). [1] She was assessed at 438 GRT, 166 NRT. She was powered by a triple expansion steam engine, which had cylinders of 36.0 centimetres (14+3⁄16 in), 57.0 centimetres (22+7⁄16 in) and 93 centimetres (36+5⁄8 in) diameter by 64.9 centimetres (25+9⁄16 in) stroke. The engine was made by Bremer Vulkan, Vegesack. It was rated at 115nhp. The engine powered a single screw propeller driven via a low pressure turbine, double reduction gearing and a hydraulic coupling. [2] It could propel the ship at 12.5 knots (23.2 km/h). [1]
Friedrich Busse was built as yard number 710 by Bremer Vulkan, Vegesack for F. Busse Hochseefischerei, Wesermünde. She was launched on 7 November 1934 and completed that month. The fishing boat registration PG 419 was allocated, as were the Code Letters DFCA. [1] [2]
Friedrich Busse was requisitioned by the Kriegsmarine on 16 September 1939 for use as a Vorpostenboot . She was allocated to 2 Vorpostenflotille as V 211 Friedrich Busse. She was redesignated V 212 Friedrich Busse on 20 October. [1]
On 6 June 1944, Friedrich Busse was in port at Caen, Calvados, France when Operation Overlord started, and was trapped there with V 206 Otto Bröhan and the motor minesweeper R 231 as their retreat from the port had been cut off. All three vessels were scuttled with explosives on 12 June, with Friedrich Busse scuttled in the Caen Canal. [3] [4] [5]
Friedrich Busse was refloated in 1945 and repaired, becoming the salvage vessel King Hal under British ownership. She was sold to Denmark in 1946 and returned to service as the fishing trawler Tórhallur. In 1948, she was sold to P/F Trolarafelagid "Tor", Thorshavn, Faroe Islands. Her port of registry was Thorshaven, sailing under the Danish flag. The Code Letters OXUR were allocated. She was assessed at 507 GRT, 280 NRT. [1] [6] On 18 December 1952, Torhallur was sold to the Hochseefischerei Carl Kämpf, Bremerhaven, West Germany. She was allocated the fishing boat registration BX 372 and the Code Letters DFAL. She was assessed at 440 GRT, 162 NRT. [1] [7] She was sold to Agyris A. Theocharis, Ambelaki, Greece in December 1958 and was renamed Delfini in 1962. [1] [8] She was re-engined in that year; a diesel engine of 770ihp being fitted. [9] On 18 January 1972, she ran aground on the Oukacha Rocks, off Casablanca, Morocco. She was declared a total loss. Senator Schröder was a German trawler used as a Vorpostenboot during the First and Second World War. Launched in 1908 as a fishing trawler, she became a research vessel in the inter-war period.
Seydlitz was a German trawler built in 1936 which was converted into a Vorpostenboot for the Kriegsmarine during World War II, serving as V 201 Seydlitz and V 211 Seydlitz. She was bombed and sunk off the Channel Islands on 20 March 1944.

She was sunk at Saint Peter Port, Guernsey, Channel Islands in an allied air raid on15 June 1944. Repaired post-war, she was renamed Pommern in 1954 and served until 1960.
Dorum was a German fishing trawler that was requisitioned by the Kriegsmarine in the Second World War for use as a Vorpostenboot, serving as V 204 Dorum and V 407 Dorum. She was scuttled at, or near, Bordeaux, Gironde, France on 28 August 1944.
Otto Bröhan was a German fishing trawler that was requisitioned by the Kriegsmarine in the Second World War for use as a Vorpostenboot, serving as V 207 Otto Bröhan and V 206 Otto Bröhan. She was scuttled at Caen, Calvados, France in June 1944. She was raised in March 1945 and converted to a survey ship for the French Navy, renamed Ingénieur Hydrographe Nicolas. She served until 1960 and was then scrapped.
Gebrüder Kähler was a German fishing trawler that was requistioned by the Kriegsmarine in the Second World War for use as a Vorpostenboot. She struck a mine and sank in the Westerschelde on 5 September 1940.
R. Walther Darré was a German fishing trawler that was requisitioned by the Kriegsmarine in the Second World War for use as a Vorpostenboot. She served as V 210 R. Walther Darré and V 208 R. Walther Darré. She was sunk in the English Channel by British motor torpedo boats in July 1944.
Claus Bolten was a German fishing trawler which was requistioned by the Kriegsmarine in the Second World War for use as a vorpostenboot, serving as V 213 Claus Bolten. She was sunk in a battle in the English Channel in July 1944.
Zieten was a German fishing trawler that was requistioned by the Kriegsmarine in the Second World War for use as a Vorpostenboot, serving as V 213 Zieten and V 204 Zieten. She was scuttled in January 1945 but was raised later that year and rebuilt as the survey ship Astrolabe. She served with the French Navy 1947–48 and was sold for use as a fishing trawler. In service until 1953, she was scrapped the following year.
Spica was a German fishing trawler that was requistioned by the Kriegsmarine in the Second World War for use as a vorpostenboot, Serving as V 214 Spica and V 804 Spica. She returned to service as a fishing trawler post-war and was scrapped in 1955.
V 404 Baden was a German fishing trawler that was requisitoned by the Kriegsmarine during the Second World War for use as a vorpostenboot. She was built in 1930 as Jakob Goldschmidt and was renamed Baden in 1933. She served as V 214 Baden and V 404 Baden. Scuttled in 1944, she was raised post war and became the French cargo ship Docteur Edmond Papin. Sold to the United Kingdom in 1961, she was scrapped the next year.
Deltra I was a German fishing trawler that was requistioned by the Kriegsmarine in the Second World War for use as a vorpostenboot. She was built in 1920 as Oliva and was renamed Gothmund in that year. She was renamed Otto Telschow in 1933, then Baltrum the next year and Deltra I in 1938.
V 303 Tannenberg was a German fishing trawler that was requistioned in the Second World War by the Kriegsmarine for use as a vorpostenboot. She was returned to her owners post war. In 1958, she was re-engined and converted to a cargo ship. In 1970 she was sold to Greece and renamed Panaghia. She was sold to Panama in 1975 and was renamed Nikos then Chantal. She was wrecked in 1978.
V 304 Breslau was a German fishing trawler that was requisitioned in the Second World War by the Kriegsmarine for use as a vorpostenboot. Built in 1925 as Weser, she was renamed Breslau in 1939. She was wrecked at the entrance to the Noordzeekanaal in 1940.
V 305 Ostpreussen was a German fishing trawler that was requistioned in the Second World War by the Kriegsmarine for use as a vorpostenboot and later a Vorpostensicherungsboot. She was returned to her owners post war. In 1957, she was re-engined, converted to a cargo ship and renamed Stella Maris. Sold to the Netherlands that year, she was scrapped in 1958.
