High Throston is a suburb of Hartlepool within the borough of Hartlepool in County Durham, England. It is situated on the north-western edge of Hartlepool. The hamlet of High Throston (from the Anglo Saxon thosson meaning hill)[ citation needed ] is situated on a promontory overlooking the Tees bay.[ citation needed ]

Hartlepool is a town in County Durham, England. The town lies on the North Sea coast, 7 1⁄2 miles (12 km) north of Middlesbrough and 17 miles (27 km) south of Sunderland. The town is governed as part of the Borough of Hartlepool, a unitary authority which also administers outlying villages such as Seaton Carew, Greatham, Hart Village, Dalton Piercy and Elwick.
West Hartlepool refers to the western part of what has since the 1960s been known as the borough of Hartlepool in North East England. It was originally formed in 1854 as the result of the opening of seaside docks and railways that connected the docks to Leeds and onward to other cities.
Brierton is a small village and civil parish in the borough of Hartlepool and the ceremonial county of County Durham, England. The village of Brierton, is itself situated a short distance to the south-west of Hartlepool, but there is also a suburban area of Hartlepool bearing the same name. This often causes confusion, which is why the suburban area is sometimes referred to as "Brierton Lane" to differentiate between the two separate areas. The village is located up the lane which is a cul-de-sac, and very rural. Close by to the suburb, was "Brierton Hospital" which was a fever hospital. Dalton Piercy is a village and civil parish in the borough of Hartlepool and the ceremonial county of County Durham, in England. The population of the civil parish taken at the 2011 Cernsus was 289. It is situated 1 mile east of the A19 and 1 mile to the west of Hartlepool.

The area is named after a Norman French family called Carou who owned lands in the area and settled there, while 'Seaton' means farmstead or settlement by the sea.

The Clarence Railway was an early railway company that operated in north-east England between 1833 and 1853. The railway was built to take coal from mines in County Durham to ports on the River Tees and was a competitor to the Stockton and Darlington Railway (S&DR). It suffered financial difficulty soon after it opened because traffic was low and the S&DR charged a high rate for transporting coal to the Clarence, and the company was managed by the Exchequer Loan Commissioners after July 1834. An extension of the Byers Green branch was opened in 1839 by the independent West Durham Railway to serve collieries in Weardale.
