UIOM is a planned ocean-going Hydrographic survey vessel of the Marina Militare to replace Italian ship Ammiraglio Magnaghi (A5303) from 2020 [2]
UIOM will be a multipurpose vessel with various operational capabilities, including:
Driving design parameters are the efficiency in the whole speed range, extended range, remarkable seaworthiness performances. Due to the optimization of spaces, the ship is highly flexible in terms of configuration, embarked equipment and capabilities. UIOM will be able to embark a few standard ISO1C containers, 20 ft (6.1 m).
The German Type 212 class, also Italian Todaro class, is a diesel-electric submarine developed by Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft AG (HDW) for the German and Italian navies. It features diesel propulsion and an additional air-independent propulsion (AIP) system using Siemens proton exchange membrane (PEM) compressed hydrogen fuel cells. The submarines can operate at high speed on diesel power or switch to the AIP system for silent slow cruising, staying submerged for up to three weeks with little exhaust heat. The system is also said to be vibration-free, extremely quiet and virtually undetectable.
The Italian Navy is the navy of the Italian Republic. It is one of the four branches of Italian Armed Forces and was formed in 1946 from what remained of the Regia Marina after World War II. Along with another future sister ship, she is expected to replace the replenishment oilers (AORs)Stromboli-class replenishment oiler. Vulcano was financed under the 2014 Naval Law, for €346 million, then increased to €374.6 million, when the length was extended by 12 metres (39 ft). A second vessel was ordered in January 2022 for projected delivery in 2025. The Navy also has an option for a third ship of the class.
Elettra is an Italian Navy SIGINT vessel designated as 'Nuova Unità Polivalente di Supporto (NUPS).
Designed to carry out research and surveillance activities, the vessel’s platform was developed from the RV Alliance built for NATO.
Her propulsion system, based on two permanent magnet electric engines, constitutes a technological breakthrough and she is the first surface vessel in the world to be powered by this type of engine. The main characteristics of this propulsion system are: high reliability, high efficiency, low maintenance and low underwater radiated noise
