Juanita N. Holmes is an American police officer and administrator who is the Commissioner of the New York City Department of Probation. [1] Prior to that role,Holmes was the Chief of the Training Bureau in the NYPD. Before the appointment of Keechant Sewell as New York City Police Commissioner on January 1,2022, [2] Holmes was the highest-ranking female in the NYPD. [3]
The Patrol Services Bureau is the largest and most visible bureau in the NYPD,overseeing much of the department's uniformed officers on patrol. [4] [5] [6]
Holmes started her career in law enforcement when she joined the NYPD's 101st Precinct,on patrol. She also served in the 81,100,103,111,and 113 Precincts,also Police Service Areas 2 and 8,the Patrol Borough Bronx Investigations Unit,Housing Borough Bronx/Queens,Office of the Deputy Commissioner of Training,Domestic Violence Unit,and School Safety Division. As the Commanding Officer of the Patrol Services Bureau,she oversees the department's 77 Precincts throughout the city. [8]
Holmes holds a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn/Patchogue,New York),and is also a graduate of the Police Management Institute at Columbia University.

The New York City Police Department (NYPD),officially the City of New York Police Department,is the primary law enforcement agency within New York City. Established on May 23,1845,the NYPD is the largest,and one of the oldest,municipal police departments in the United States.
The Philadelphia Police Department is the police agency responsible for law enforcement and investigations within the County and City of Philadelphia. The PPD is one of the oldest municipal police agencies,fourth-largest police force and sixth-largest non-federal law enforcement agency in the United States. Since records were first kept in 1828,at least 289 PPD officers have died in the line of duty.

The New York City Police Department (NYPD) is structured into numerous bureaus and units. As a whole,the NYPD is headed by the Police Commissioner,a civilian administrator appointed by the Mayor,with the senior sworn uniformed officer of the service titled "Chief of Department". The Police Commissioner appoints the First Deputy Commissioner as the department's second-in-command and the Chief of Department as the department's highest ranking uniformed officer. The City's reforms created a full-time professional police force modeled upon London's Metropolitan Police,itself only formed in 1829. Philip Banks III is the former Deputy Mayor of New York City for Public Safety and a retired law enforcement officer who served as NYPD chief of department in 2013 and 2014. As Chief of Department,Banks oversaw all patrol and specialty units. He resigned in the midst of the investigations into the Eric Adams administration.
Carlos M. Gomez is a former Chief of Department of the New York City Police Department. A native of Cuba who emigrated to the United States as a young boy with his father,Gomez grew up in the New York City borough of Queens. He was designated Chief of Department of the NYPD on September 16,2016. The Chief of Department is the highest uniformed position,and Gomez was the 39th person to hold this post becoming the highest ranking Hispanic officer in the department.
Terence "Terry" Monahan is an American law enforcement officer who served as the chief of department for the New York Police Department from 2018 to 2021.
Dermot Francis Shea is a retired American police officer who was the 44th New York City Police Commissioner. He assumed the position on December 1,2019,and was sworn in by Mayor Bill de Blasio in a public ceremony on December 2.
Rodney K. Harrison is an American police officer and administrator who recently served as the Police Commissioner of the Suffolk County Police Department. He previously served in the New York City Police Department where he achieved the highest uniform rank,Chief of department.
Fausto B. Pichardo is a Dominican American police officer and administrator,and is the former Chief of Patrol Bureau in the NYPD. In this capacity he oversees some 22,000 uniformed police officers in New York City and is the first Dominican American to reach his position.
Keechant L. Sewell is an American baseball executive and former police officer and administrator. Sewell is currently the New York Mets Senior Vice President of Security and Guest Experience. She previously served as the 45th New York City Police Commissioner,the first woman and third black person to serve in the position. On June 12,2023,Sewell announced that she was stepping down as commissioner. No reason was given for her departure.
Edward A. Caban is an American police officer who served as the New York City Police Commissioner from 2023 to 2024,having been appointed by Mayor Eric Adams,and resigning amidst federal corruption investigations into the Eric Adams administration. He was the first Latino to serve as Commissioner of the NYPD.
