Lorraine Grillo (born November 17,1949) is an American government official who served as the first deputy mayor of New York City in the administration of Mayor Eric Adams. [1] Grillo served as senior advisor to Mayor Bill de Blasio for COVID recovery and commissioner of the New York City Department of Design and Construction.
Grillo is from Astoria,Queens. [2] She began her career as community relations specialist for the New York City School Construction Authority. Grillo later served in several senior roles in the department before being appointed as CEO and president in 2014. On July 16,2018,she was appointed commissioner of the New York City Department of Design and Construction. [3] In December 2021,Mayor-elect Eric Adams announced that he had selected Grillo to serve as first deputy mayor. She assumed office in January 2022. [4] Grillo succeeded deputy mayor Dean Fuleihan. [2] Adams replaced Grillo with close associate Sheena Wright,who resigned in October 2024.

The mayor's office administers all city services,public property,police and fire protection,most public agencies,and enforces all city and state laws within New York City.
The New York City Police Commissioner is the head of the New York City Police Department and presiding member of the Board of Commissioners. The commissioner is appointed by and serves at the pleasure of the mayor. The commissioner is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the department as well as the appointment of deputies including the Chief of Department and subordinate officers. Commissioners are civilian administrators,and they and their subordinate deputies are civilians under an oath of office,not sworn members of the force. This is a separate position from the Chief of Department,who is the senior sworn uniformed member of the force. The First Deputy Commissioner is the Commissioner and department's second-in-command. The office of the Police Commissioner is located at the NYPD Headquarters,One Police Plaza. Both the commissioner and first deputy commissioner outrank all uniformed officers,including the chief of department.
The New York City Department of Correction (NYCDOC) is the branch of the municipal government of New York City responsible for the custody,control,and care of New York City's imprisoned population,housing the majority of them on Rikers Island. It employs 7,060 uniformed officers and 1,727 civilian staff,has 543 vehicles,and processes over 100,000 new inmates every year,retaining a population of inmates of around 6,000. Its nickname is New York's Boldest. Its regulations are compiled in title 39 of the New York City Rules.
Eric Leroy Adams is an American politician and former police officer who has served as the 110th mayor of New York City since 2022. Adams was an officer in the New York City Transit Police and then the New York City Police Department (NYPD) for more than 20 years,retiring at the rank of captain. He served in the New York State Senate from 2006 to 2013,representing the 20th district in Brooklyn. In 2013,Adams was elected Brooklyn Borough President,the first Black American to hold the position,and re-elected in 2017.
Eric Ulrich is an American politician from the state of New York. A Republican,Ulrich represented the 32nd district on the New York City Council from 2009 to 2021. In 2022,he served as New York City Buildings Commissioner and as senior advisor to Democratic New York City Mayor Eric Adams. On September 13,2023,Ulrich was arrested on 16 felony corruption charges;he pleaded not guilty. He resigned in the midst of the investigations into the Eric Adams administration.

Sheena Wright is an American nonprofit executive and civil servant. She served as the First Deputy Mayor of New York City and was previously the president of the United Way of New York City. In August 2021,she was appointed chair of New York City mayor-elect Eric Adams's transition team. On December 6,2022,Adams named her Deputy Mayor for Strategic Initiatives,a role she assumed in January 2023. Wright later resigned amid investigations into the Eric Adams administration.
David C. Banks is an American attorney and educator who served as the 31st New York City Schools chancellor in the administration of Mayor Eric Adams. He resigned in 2024 amidst investigations into the Eric Adams administration.
Keechant L. Sewell is an American baseball executive and former police officer and administrator. Sewell is currently the New York Mets Senior Vice President of Security and Guest Experience. She previously served as the 45th New York City Police Commissioner,the first woman and third black person to serve in the position. On June 12,2023,Sewell announced that she was stepping down as commissioner. No reason was given for her departure.
Maria Torres-Springer is an American government official and former nonprofit executive who is the First Deputy Mayor of New York City,assuming office on October 8,2024. Previously the vice president for U.S. programs at the Ford Foundation,Torres-Springer has been New York City's Deputy Mayor for Housing,Economic Development and Workforce;Commissioner of the New York City Department of Small Business Services;and Commissioner of the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development. She was also the president and CEO of the New York City Economic Development Corporation. Torres-Springer is the first Filipina to serve as First Deputy Mayor of New York City.
Anne Williams-Isom is an American government official,academic,lawyer and former nonprofit executive who has been serving as New York City deputy mayor for Health and Human Services since January 2022. She also served as acting First Deputy Mayor of New York City for a few hours in the morning on October 8,2024 immediately following the formal resignation and departure of Sheena Wright from the office of First Deputy Mayor of New York City until the formal appointment of Maria Torres-Springer to that office in the afternoon that same day in accordance with Executive Order 45 released on September 26,2024 by Mayor Eric Adams. Williams-Isom holds the James R. Dumpson chair of child welfare studies at Fordham Graduate School of Social Service. She was the chief operating officer and later the chief executive officer of the Harlem Children's Zone.
