Eldoret is a principal town in the Rift Valley region of Kenya and serves as the capital of Uasin Gishu County. The town is colloquially known as 'Sisibo'. As per the 2019 Kenya Population and Housing Census, Eldoret is the fifth most populated urban area in the country after Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru and Ruiru. Lying south of the Cherangani Hills, the local elevation varies from about 2100 meters at the airport to more than 2700 meters in nearby areas (7000–9000 feet). The population was 289,380 in the 2009 Census, and it is currently the fastest growing town in Kenya with 475,716 people according to 2019 National Census. Eldoret is on course to be named Kenya's fourth city.

There are more than 110,000 adherents. The Christian Reformed Church in Eastern Africa separated in 1992. It is a member of the World Communion of Reformed Churches. It has official relationship with the Christian Reformed Church in North America.

The County Government of Nandi is one of the county governments of the 47 counties of Kenya as established by the Constitution of Kenya enacted in 2010.The county government is led by the County Governor, his deputy and 10 County Executive Committee members as provided for in the Constitution of Kenya. The first County Governor of Nandi County was Dr.Cleophas Lagat and the first Deputy Governor was Dominic Chepyagan. The Second Governor is H.E Honourable Stephen Kipyego Sang and The Second Deputy Governor is H.E Honourable Yulita Chebotip Mitei. The Constitution of Kenya also provides for legislative house for each county. For the period between March 4, 2014 and the date of the next General election in Kenya, the Nandi County Assembly shall have a Speaker, representatives of the 30 wards of Nandi County and other nominated members representing women, the youth and the disabled members of the society as provided for in the Constitution of Kenya.
The office of the County Governor of Nandi is one of the State Offices in 47 devolved governments in 47 Counties of Kenya. The county governor and the deputy governor are the chief executive and the deputy chief executive of the county. The first Governor of Nandi is Dr. Cleophas Kiprop Lagat who was elected on 4 March 2013 General Election, directly by the registered voters in the county. His deputy is Dominic Chepyagan Biwott who was his running mate. Dr. Lagat appointed, on 3 June 2013, the following 10 County Executive Committee(CEC) Members to representing their departments, in the exercise of the powers conferred to him by Article 179 (2) (b) of the Constitution of Kenya as read with sections 30 (2) (d), (e) and 35 of the County Governments Act, 2012, and upon approval by the Nandi County Assembly in its session. He later on appointed Chief Officers for respective Departments who are by law the accounting and authorized public officers.
Paul Kiplimo Boit was a prominent KANU politician during the Moi Regime. He was the Chairman of Sirikwa County Council (which later came to be divided to Nandi County, Uasin Gishu County, Trans Nzoia County, West Pokot County Elgeyo Marakwet County from 1964 to 1971 and later became the Chairman of Wareng County Council one of five Councils split from Sirikwa covering Uasin Gishu. He was best known for his excellent farming skills which earned him many awards and a visit from the former Tanzanian president Ali Hassan Mwinyi
