Koraput is a Lok Sabha parliamentary constituency in Odisha. It's considered a bastion of Indian National Congress as it has won this seat for a record 16 times out of 18 elections including one bypoll . Former Chief Minister of Odisha Giridhar Gamang has represented this constituency for a record 9 times from 1972 to 2004. In the 2024 Indian General Election where BJP sweeped Odisha winning 20 of the 21 Loksabha seats, it failed to win this seat & Saptagiri Ulaka of Congress won for the 2nd consecutive time with a margin of more than 1.47 lakh votes & his vote percentage getting increased by 6.63%. Also in the 2024 Odisha Legislative Assembly election Congress won 6 out of 7 assembly segments falling under this loksabha constituency.

Giridhar Gamang is an Indian politician who was a leader in the Indian National Congress and a former Chief Minister of Odisha. He was born at Dibirisingi village in Rayagada district of Odisha. In 1972, he was elected for the first time to the 5th Lok Sabha from Koraput. Subsequently, he was re-elected to the Lok Sabha in 1977, 1980, 1984, 1989, 1991, 1996, 1998 and 2004. He was the Chief Minister of Odisha from 17 February 1999 to 6 December 1999.
