Dr. Zakir Husain Khan was an Indian educationist and politician who served as the 3rd president of India from 13 May 1967 until his death on 3 May 1969.
Jamia Millia Islamia is a public and research university located in Delhi. Originally established at Aligarh, United Provinces during the British Raj in 1920, it moved to its current location in Okhla in 1935. It was given the deemed status by the University Grants Commission in 1962. Jamia Millia Islamia became a central university by an act of the Indian parliament which was passed on 26 December 1988.
Mohammad Ajmal Khan, better known as Hakim Ajmal Khan, was a physician in Delhi, India, and one of the founders of the Jamia Millia Islamia university in Delhi, India. He also founded another institution, Ayurvedic and Unani Tibbia College, better known as Tibbia College, situated in Karol Bagh, Delhi. He was the only Muslim to chair a session of the Hindu Mahasabha. He became the Jamia Millia Islamia's first chancellor in 1920 and remained in office until his death in 1927.

Jamiatul Qasim Darul Uloom -il-Islamia is an Islamic seminary in India. The Jamia was established by Mufti Mahfoozur Rahman Usmani, an Islamic scholar of India in 1989 at the Indo-Nepal border, in Supaul, Bihar. The Jamia also serves as a center for National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language and National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology.
Akhtarul Wasey is an Indian scholar and academician, who serves as the president of Maulana Azad University, in Jodhpur, India. He formerly served as professor of Islamic Studies at Jamia Millia Islamia in New Delhi, where he remains professor emeritus in the Department of Islamic Studies.
Shamim Hanafi was an Indian Urdu critic, dramatist and a proponent of modernist movement in Urdu literature. His books on modernism include The Philosophical Foundation of Modernism and New Poetic Tradition. He was associated with the Jamia Millia Islamia to the extent of becoming a professor emeritus.
Mohammad Zahid Ashraf is an Indian scientist and an academician. Known for his studies on thrombosis experienced at high altitudes. Ashraf is an elected fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, India, Indian National Sciences Academy and Indian Academy of Sciences, and an elected member of the National Academy of Medical Sciences. The Department of Biotechnology of the Government of India awarded him the National Bioscience Award for Career Development, one of the highest Indian science awards, for his contributions to biosciences in 2017–18. Ashraf currently serves as a professor and Dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences at Jamia Millia Islamia.
Najma Akhtar is an Indian academic and academic administrator. She served as the Vice Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia from 12 April 2019 until 12 November 2023. She is also the first woman to hold the post in JMI. In 2022, she was awarded with Padma Shri by the Government of India.
Zafar Ahmad Nizami was an Indian author, poet and writer. He served the Jamia Millia Islamia as Professor of Political Science for about 30 years and authored books like Memarān-e-Jamia, Hindustān ke chand Siyasi Rahnuma, Maulana Azad Ki Kahani and Tarīkh-e-Hind: Ahd-e-Jadeed.
Student violence has become a serious issue for universities and colleges of India. The type of student violence can vary from political rivalries to shootings to sexual harassment.
The Jamia Millia Islamia attack refers to the forceful entry by Delhi police into the Jamia Millia Islamia university during a confrontation with student protesters that started outside the campus on 15 December 2019. Hundreds of police officers forcefully entered the campus and detained more than a hundred students during the confrontation with the protesters. The police used batons and tear gas to disperse protesters. The police also entered the university library and washrooms and in the process of the violence ransacked parts of it. The visuals of students being dragged and assaulted by the police were telecast by news channels. About two hundred people were injured and were admitted to AIIMS and the Holy Family Hospital.
Khwaja Hasan Sani Nizami was a Sufi Shaykh of Nizami branch of Chishti Order and the former Sajjadanasheen of Nizamuddin Auliya's shrine and considered as a prominent figure of Urdu literature. He was a member of United Nations Religious Initiatives, San Francisco of United States of America. He was the son of Khwaja Hasan Nizami and the master of Iqbal Ahmad Khan.
Nadeem Khan is a human rights activist in India serving as the National Secretary of Association for Protection of Civil Rights and Founder of UAH, actively contributing to its cause. His activism extends various communal violence incidents across India including the Bihar Communal Violence, Ram Navami Violence, and Kasganj violence of 2018. He also aligned the victims with others for sponsorship.
Students and artists created art and graphite paintings on the walls and roads of the Jamia Millia Islamia campus in New Delhi, India, following the 2019 Jamia Millia Islamia attack by Delhi Police in December 2019. The protest art spread into the neighborhood of Shaheen Bagh and their protests, and continued to be created until January and February 2020.
Dayar e Shauq Mera or Diyar e Shauq Mera is the Tarana of the central university Jamia Millia Islamia. The lyrics were written by Mohammed Khaliq Siddiqui in 1964. The Tarana is recited every year during the Foundation Day celebration and all official functions at Jamia Millia Islamia.
