Schools in the Tasmanian public education system include 123 primary schools (Kindergarten to Grade 6), 54 high schools (Grade 7 to 12), and 8 colleges (Grade 11 and 12). The public education system is run by the Department for Education, Children and Young People.

Of the high schools, 26 are district (or district high) schools, where in rural areas the primary and high schools are located on a single campus. There are also 6 support (or special) schools, 4 early learning centres, 1 infant school and distance education.

The largest public education institute in Tasmania is the University of Tasmania, with major campuses at Newnham (in Launceston) and Sandy Bay (in Hobart), along with a north-west centre in Burnie.

There are many non-government schools and colleges in Tasmania. Non-government schools generally have a religious affiliation, although the strength varies between schools. There are 70 registered non-government schools in Tasmania.

Kingston is a town on the outskirts of Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. Hellyer College is a government comprehensive senior secondary school located in Burnie in north-western Tasmania, Australia. Established in 1976, the college caters for approximately 630 students in Years 11 and 12 and is administered by the Tasmanian Department of Education. Hellyer College is situated on the same campus as the TAFE Tasmania and 250 metres (820 ft) from the Cradle Coast campus of the University of Tasmania, on Mooreville Road.

TasTAFE is a Tasmanian tertiary education body of the Australian state-based Technical and Further Education system run by the Tasmanian State Government. The main campuses are located at Hobart, Warrane, Claremont, Glenorchy, Launceston, Alanvale, Devonport and Burnie.

The Jordan River Learning Federation is a government co-educational comprehensive early learning centre, primary and secondary school, trade training centre, and school farm located in Bridgewater, a northern suburb of Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. Established in 1957 as Bridgewater High School, the school caters for approximately 300 students from birth to Year K and then to 12. The school is administered by the Tasmanian Department of Education.
