These are the top 50 albums of 1988 in Australia from the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) End of Year Albums Chart. [1] These were the first End of Year album charts created by ARIA, it had started producing its own charts from mid-1988. [2] ARIA had previously used the Kent Music Report, known from 1987 onwards as the Australian Music Report. [3]
Peak chart positions from 1987 and early 1988 were calculated by David Kent for the Kent Music Report. [3] Late 1988 peak chart positions are from the ARIA Charts. [2] Overall position on the End of Year Chart is calculated by ARIA based on the number of weeks and position that the records reach within the Top 50 albums for each week during 1988.
John Peter Farnham AO is a British-born Australian singer. Farnham was a teen pop idol from 1967 until 1979, billed then as Johnny Farnham, but has since forged a career as an adult contemporary singer. His career has mostly been as a solo artist, although he replaced Glenn Shorrock as lead singer of Little River Band from 1982 to 1985.

At the 1990 ceremony the group won 'Best Video' for "Compulsory Hero", which was directed by Geoff Barter. It was the follow-up to his previous No. 1 album, Whispering Jack, and was the highest-selling album in Australia in 1988. As of 1997, it was eleven times platinum, indicating sales of over 770,000 units. It is also critically considered one of Farnham's best albums, with the tracks "Age of Reason" and "Beyond the Call" being about the urgency for the world to wake up and solve its problems.

It spent 25 weeks at the No. 1 spot on the Album Charts during 1986–1987, it was awarded the 1987 ARIA Award for "Album of the Year", and was the best charting album for the decade of the 1980s in Australia. It was the first Australian-made album to be released on Compact Disc within Australia. One of Farnham's biggest hits, "You're the Voice" was issued as the lead single from this album and peaked at No. 1 on the Kent Music Report Singles Charts.
Rockmelons, often referred to as the Rockies, were an Australian pop/dance/R&B group formed in 1983 in Sydney. Primary members are Bryon Jones, his brother Jonathon Jones and Raymond Medhurst. They had two Australian top five hit singles in the early 1990s with "Ain't No Sunshine" and "That Word (L.O.V.E.)", both sung by Deni Hines.
