Maluku Utara United Football Club (simply known as Malut United) is an Indonesian professional football club based in Ternate, North Maluku. The club currently plays in the Liga 1.
On 30 January 2023, mining tycoon David Glenn has successfully took over Putra Delta Sidoarjo, with the ownership transferred to Malut Maju Sejahtera and Glenn's company PT. Mineral Trobos Group. Glenn then relocated the club to the town of Sofifi, with the aims of improving football within a region known for producing talented players but lacking teams in the top two tiers of domestic football. Club was renaming the club as Maluku Utara United in the process. [1]
To prepare for the Indonesian 2023–24 Liga 2 season, Malut United signed a total of 13 players, most of whom were natives of North Maluku, [2] as well as enlisting Imran Nahumarury as their inaugural head coach. [3] The team will play their home games at the Gelora Kie Raha Stadium in Ternate [4] whilst planning to build their own stadium in Sofifi. [5]

Sofifi is a town on the west coast of the Indonesian island of Halmahera, and since 2010 has been the capital of the province of North Maluku. It straddles between the North Oba District of the city of Tidore Islands as well parts of the South Jailolo District of the West Halmahera Regency. At the 2020 Census, the town had a population of 2,498, while North Oba District had a population of 19,552. Previously, Ternate had been the province's capital.
