The Manthey Barn, in rural Tripp County, South Dakota near Colome, South Dakota, was built in 1916 by George Manthey. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.

It is a "Midwest Three-Portal" dairy barn. It has a timber frame built with hand-hewn lumber and uses mortise-and-tenon joinery. Its first floor has mangers on both sides of a narrow central aisle, a milking area, stanchions, and storage areas. A hayloft is on the second floor. [2]

It is the only known example of a pre-cut wood frame barn in the state.

The Weigandt Barn is a historic barn at 27285 Silver Valley Road in rural Jones County, South Dakota. It is a rectangular structure on a fieldstone and concrete foundation, and measures 64 by 70 feet. Built in 1917 by August Weigandt, it is a regionally unusual example of a Western Feeder barn, a type not usually found in the West River of the state. Farmers in the area generally "finished" their cattle on grass, and did not need feeder barns.

The Jacob D. Goosen Barn is a historic barn in rural Sully County, South Dakota about 1/2 mile east of Onida on the north side of East Onida Road. Built in 1904, it was built with a Shawver truss roof, a form popular in other areas, but not widely adopted in South Dakota. This truss method used lighter-weight framing, which transferred the roof's dead load to the walls, enabling the removal of interior posts. The barn is 50 feet (15 m) wide and 100 feet (30 m) long, with a high gambrel roof that characterizes the use of the Shawver truss.
