The Meitetsu Chikkō Line(名鉄築港線,Meitetsu Chikkō-sen) is a 1.5 km Japanese railway line in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, owned and operated by the private railway operator Nagoya Railroad (Meitetsu). At Meiden Chikkō, between the line's two stations, there is a connection to the freight-only Nagoya Rinkai Railway Tōchiku line.

The Nagoya Rinkai Railway is a Japanese freight-only railway company in Nagoya, Aichi, shared by Japan Freight Railway Company, Nagoya Port Authority, and Nippon Express. The third sector company was founded in 1965. The company is abbreviated as Meirin (名臨). Its lines serve the industrial area of the Nagoya Port. They mainly transport limestones via Seinō Railway, chemical products, train cars of Nagoya Railroad, or car parts of Toyota Motor.

History

The line was opened in 1924 by the Aichi Electric Railway, electrified at 1,500 V DC, to service the Nagoya Port. The company merged with Meitetsu in 1935. The line was double-tracked in 1939, but after being damaged by Typhoon Vera in 1959, the line was repaired as a single track.[ citation needed ]

Typhoon Vera, also known as the Isewan Typhoon, was an exceptionally intense tropical cyclone that struck Japan in September 1959, becoming the strongest and deadliest typhoon on record to make landfall on the country. The storm's intensity resulted in damage of unparalleled severity and extent, and was a major setback to the Japanese economy, which was still recovering from World War II. In the aftermath of Vera, Japan's disaster management and relief systems were significantly reformed, and the typhoon's effects would set a benchmark for future storms striking the country.
