NGC 1193 is an open cluster in the Perseus constellation. [1] It was first observed and catalogued by astronomer William Herschel in 1786. [3] The cluster is estimated to be approximately 4.2 billion years old. [4]

Stellar population

NGC 1193 is usually classified as a Trumpler type II3m, [5] indicating its stellar population have a wide range of brightness, from very bright to faint stars and little star concentration in the center of the cluster. The letter 'm' on the Trumpler classification indicates a population of 50 to a 100 stars. However a study released in 2022 [5] indicates a population of approximately 181 stars in the cluster, possibly changing the type from II3m to II3r. A photometric study of this galaxy carried out in 1988 revealed a small population of 5 blue straggler stars, a number of subgiant branch stars and red giant branch stars. [5]

NGC 7510 is an open cluster of stars located around 11,400 light years away in the constellation Cepheus, near the border with Cassiopeia. At this distance, the light from the cluster has undergone extinction from interstellar gas and dust equal to E(B – V) = 0.90 ± 0.02 magnitude in the UBV photometric system. Its brightest member is a giant star with a stellar classification of B1.5 III. This cluster forms part of the Perseus Spiral Arm. It has a Trumpler class rating of II 2 m and is around 10 million years old.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">NGC 1502</span> Open cluster in the constellation Camelopardalis

NGC 1502 is a young open cluster of approximately 60 stars in the constellation Camelopardalis, discovered by William Herschel on November 3, 1787. It has a visual magnitude of 6.0 and thus is dimly visible to the naked eye. This cluster is located at a distance of approximately 3,500 light years from the Sun, at the outer edge of the Cam OB1 association of co-moving stars, and is likely part of the Orion Arm. The asterism known as Kemble's Cascade appears to "flow" into NGC 1502, but this is just a chance alignment of stars.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">NGC 6755</span> Open cluster in the constellation Aquila

NGC 6755 is an open cluster of stars in the equatorial constellation of Aquila, positioned about 3° to the east of the star Delta Aquilae. It was discovered by the Anglo-German astronomer William Herschel on July 30, 1785 and is located at a distance of 8,060 light years from the Sun. NGC 6756 lies 30′ to the northeast of NGC 6755, with the pair forming a visual double cluster. However, they probably do not form a binary cluster system since they have different ages and are too distant from each other.

NGC 3293 is an open cluster in the Carina constellation. It was discovered by Nicolas-Louis de Lacaille in 1751. It consists of more than 100 stars brighter than 14th magnitude in a 10 arc minute field, the brightest of which are blue supergiants of apparent magnitude 6.5 and 6.7. There is also a 7th magnitude pulsating red supergiant, V361 Carinae.

NGC 2281 is an open cluster of stars in the northern constellation of Auriga. It was discovered by English astronomer William Herschel on March 4, 1788 and described as a, "cluster of coarsely scattered pretty [bright] stars, pretty rich". The Trumpler class for NGC 2281 is I3p, indicating a poor (p) but compact (I) grouping with a wide range of brightness (3). It is located at a distance of approximately 1,720 ly from the Sun and is 630–661 million years old.

NGC 637 is an open cluster of stars in the northern constellation of Cassiopeia, positioned about 1.5° to the WNW of the star Epsilon Cassiopeiae. The cluster was discovered on 9 November 1787 by German-born English astronomer William Herschel. It is located in the Perseus Arm of the Milky Way, at a distance of approximately 7.045 kilolight-years from the Sun. The cluster is small but compact, and is readily visible in a small telescope.

NGC 6834 is a young open cluster of stars located about 10,850 light years from the Sun in the constellation Cygnus. It was discovered on July 17, 1784 by Anglo-German astronomer William Herschel. The cluster has a visual magnitude of 7.8, which is dimmed by 2.1 magnitudes due to interstellar dust. Half the cluster members lie within an angular radius of 6′.

Among its members, one is a Be star, with four more possible Be stars.

It is a poor cluster with prominent central concentration and Trumpler class I2p. NGC 6910 is the core cluster of the stellar association Cygnus OB9.
