Nepean Bay is a locality in the Australian state of South Australia located on the southern shore of Western Cove in Nepean Bay on the north coast of Kangaroo Island and about 128 kilometres (80 miles) south-west of the state capital of Adelaide and about 10 kilometres (6.2 miles) south-south-west of the municipal seat of Kingscote. [2] [8]

The settlement in Nepean Bay was laid out by Nepean Developments Ltd in 1961 on sections 143 and 144 in the cadastral unit of the Hundred of Haines. [9] Its boundaries were created in May 2002 for “the long established name” which is derived from the adjoining bay. [2]

Nepean Bay consists of land zoned for agricultural use with a settlement consisting mainly of low-rise dwellings located at its western end. The Nepean Bay Conservation Park is also located within the locality about 1.5 kilometres (0.93 mi) to the east of the settlement. [2] [8]

The 2016 Australian census which was conducted in August 2016 reports that Nepean Bay had a population of 131 people. [1]

Nepean Bay is located within the federal division of Mayo, the state electoral district of Mawson and the local government area of the Kangaroo Island Council. [6] [5] [2]

Its boundaries were created in March 2002. The name is derived from a nearby beach of the same name. As of 2015, Brown Beach consists of a strip of land located between the coastline with Nepean Bay and the Hog Bay Road. The locality is zoned for conservation purposes with the view of providing limited built development intended principally for tourism uses, which has a minimal impact and where provided, complements the environment of the locality. Brown Beach is located within the federal division of Mayo, the state electoral district of Mawson and the local government area of the Kangaroo Island Council.

Stokes Bay is a locality in the Australian state of South Australia located on the north coast of Kangaroo Island overlooking Investigator Strait about 162 kilometres south-west of the state capital of Adelaide. Its boundaries were created in March 2002 for the “long established name” and includes the Stokes Bay Shack Site. Land use in the locality is principally for agricultural purposes with activity limited on the coastline to the north for conservation purposes. A settlement also occupies land immediately adjoining the bay of the same name. Stokes Bay is located within the federal division of Mayo, the state electoral district of Mawson and the local government area of the Kangaroo Island Council.
