Ogden Round Lake Wilderness Area is a wilderness area in Guysborough County, Nova Scotia, Canada, near Ogden. [1] [2] It was made in 1998 and is managed by the Nova Scotia Department of Environment and Climate Change. [3] [4] The wilderness area has good opportunity for fishing, hiking and exploration by canoes. Off-highway vehicle use is permitted on 12 kilometres (7.5 mi) of designated trails managed under agreements with the Department of Environment and Climate Change. [5] It is 174.35 kilometres (108.34 mi) from Halifax and 127.26 kilometres (79.08 mi) from Truro. [6]

Geography

Ogden Round Lake Wilderness is 5,606 hectares (13,850 acres) in area. The wilderness area has 14 glacial lakes. The lakes are Croak Lake, Long Lake, Square Lake, North Branch Lake, Odgen Round Lake, Bobsled Lake, Three Cornered Lake, Mud Lake, Frog Pond, Jake Lakes, and Ross Lakes. [2] It has mixed softwood, immature old-growth deciduous and mixedwood forests and wetlands with stillwaters. [7] Ogden Round Lake Wilderness Area has expanded 134 hectares (330 acres) in 2023, providing connectivity between Roman Valley Nature Reserve and Ogden Round Lake Wilderness Area. [7]

Routes

Ogden Round Lake Wilderness Area can be accessed via the Guysborough Nature Trail, also known as McAllister Bridge. This trail commences at Guysborough and terminates at St. Mary’s Nature Trail. [8]
