Riverside Apartments, also known as Shipyard Apartments, is a historic apartment complex located at Newport News, Virginia. It was built in 1918, and consists of two, four-story, U-shaped brick apartment buildings decorated with simple bands of sandstone. The buildings features some classically derived decoration around the portals and a few accents of the same type on the parapets. They were built for the United States Shipping Board Emergency Fleet Corporation to alleviate the housing shortage created by an influx of workers into the Newport News Shipyards during World War I. Two of the four original buildings were destroyed, one in 1975 and the other in 1979. [3]

Hilton Village is a planned English-village-style neighborhood in Newport News, Virginia. Recognized as a pioneering development in urban planning, it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The neighborhood was built between 1918 and 1921 in response to the need for housing during World War I for employees of Newport News Shipbuilding & Drydock Company. It is recognized as the United States' first Federal war-housing project.
The River Terrace Apartments is an apartment building located at 7700 East Jefferson Avenue in Detroit, Michigan. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009. River Terrace Apartments was one of the first two garden apartment complexes built in Michigan which used loan guarantees from the Federal Housing Administration, the other being Hillcrest Village in East Lansing.
The first Newport News Public Library, renamed West Avenue Library, now NNPLS Technical Services, in the Newport News Public Library System, was opened on October 14, 1929 at the corner of West Avenue and 30th Street in the City of Newport News, Virginia. This building was the first to be built in Newport News for the express purpose of being a library. In 2005, the West Avenue Library was placed onto the Virginia Landmarks Register and the National Register of Historic Places under its original name of Newport News Public Library. The building now known as West Avenue Library; however it is no longer a functioning library.
The Central National Bank building is a 23-story Art Deco skyscraper located in Richmond, Virginia. Completed in 1929, it was one of the first skyscrapers in the city of Richmond not in the heart of the financial district. According to architectural historian Richard Guy Wilson, it and the West Hospital building, are the only two skyscrapers in Richmond to have used the fashionable Art Deco ziggurat-inspired setback, and only a few others exist elsewhere in Virginia. When the bank later changed hands, it was known as the Central Fidelity Bank. It was used as a branch bank for Wachovia Corp. until that closed in 2000. After nearly fifteen years of vacancy, it was converted into apartments, and the first resident moved into the building in mid-2016. The redevelopment is called to "Deco at CNB," a 200-apartment development by Douglas Development Corp.
Grace Hospital is an American historic hospital in Richmond, Virginia. The original Colonial Revival structure was built in 1911 based on a design by noted Virginia architect Charles M. Robinson. The hospital is located to the west of Richmond's central business district and was substantially expanded by additions in 1930 and 1964. The original three-story main structure with an entrance pavilion on West Grace Street, is a Colonial Revival building with paired Ionic order columns and gauged arches. In 1930, a five-story Moderne style addition was built to the south along Monroe Street. In 1964, a further three-story addition was built along Grace Street. The 1964 addition is devoid of ornamentation, and the west wing "projects a modern, utilitarian character."
The Arlington Village Historic District is a national historic district located at Arlington County, Virginia. It contains 657 contributing buildings in a residential neighborhood in South Arlington. The area was constructed in 1939, and is a planned garden apartment community that incorporates recreational areas, open spaces, a swimming pool and courtyards within five superblocks. It also includes a shopping center consisting of six stores. The garden apartments are presented as two-story, brick rowhouses with Colonial Revival detailing. There are three building types distinguished by the roof form: flat, gambrel, or gable. Arlington Village was the first large-scale rental project in Arlington County and the first Federal Housing Administration-insured garden apartment development. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008.
Colonial Village is a historic garden apartment complex located at Arlington County, Virginia, United States. It contains 226 contributing buildings built in four stages between 1935 and 1940. The buildings hold approximately 1,055 apartments. The brick Colonial Revival-style buildings are situated around courtyards with clusters of five and seven buildings to larger groupings of up to thirteen. Colonial Village was the first Federal Housing Administration-insured, large-scale, rental housing project erected in the United States. The complex has been converted to condominiums split into three phases and two apartment complexes: Colonial Village Apartments and Colonial Village West.
Preston Court Apartments is a historic apartment building in Charlottesville, Virginia, US built in 1928. It is a three-story, C-shaped, reinforced concrete building faced with brick. It has two two-story, five-bay, flat-roofed Ionic order porticos in the Classical Revival style. The building continues to be used as a rental/apartment building by the Hartman family.
Langhorne House, also known as the Gwynn Apartments, is an historic late 19th-century house in Danville, Virginia later enlarged and used as an apartment house. Its period of significance is 1922, when Nancy Langhorne Astor, by then known as Lady Astor and the first woman to sit in the British Parliament, came to Danville to visit her birthplace and promote Anglo-American relations.
Whittaker Memorial Hospital is a historic hospital building located in the Brookville Heights neighborhood in the East End of Newport News, Virginia. The original section was built in 1943 with additions in 1957 and 1966. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009.
Medical Arts Building is an American historic medical office building located at Newport News, Virginia. It was designed by architect Charles M. Robinson and built in 1928. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.
Huntington was a historic tugboat, built in 1933 by the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company, Newport News, Virginia. She had a steel plate hull and a two-story superstructure that contained the main saloon, two cabins, heads and a galley on the lower level and wheelhouse and captains quarters on the upper level. The original coal fired steam engine was replaced by a diesel engine in 1950. The ship is named for shipyard founder Collis Potter Huntington (1821-1900). Huntington was retired from service at Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company in 1992, then retired finally in 1994. The ship later served as floating museum, before being scrapped in 2010.
John Rolfe Apartments is a historic apartment building located in Richmond, Virginia. The building was built in 1940, and is a two and three-story, ten-unit, International style brick building. The rectangular building has concrete copings at the edges of the staggered flat roofs. The building's sloped setting is park-like with a heavy buffer of trees to the south and an open lawn and trees along the north property line. The building is considered a rare and early example of International Style residential architecture in the city of Richmond and the region.
Chamberlayne Gardens is a historic apartment complex located in Richmond, Virginia. The complex was built in 1945–1946, and consists of 52 Colonial Revival style brick buildings, attached in 16 groups. They have four building plans, are two to three stories in height and contain a total of 216 one- and two-bedroom apartments. The buildings alternate in either red or buff-colored brick, and have either a gabled slate roof or a flat roof with parapet ends capped with the original tile. The complex was designed by Norfolk architect Bernard Betzig Spigel and built under the auspices of the Federal Housing Administration.
The Virginia is a historic apartment / office building located in Richmond, Virginia. It was built in 1906, and is a five-story, Classical Revival style brick building. The building features limestone, granite, and pressed metal decorative elements. The building originally housed the headquarters of the Virginia State Insurance Company.
Tuckahoe Apartments, also known as The Tuckahoe, is a historic apartment building in Richmond, Virginia. It was designed by W. Duncan Lee and built in 1928–1929. It is a massive, six-story, red brick, Georgian Revival style building. It was built as a luxury "apartment-hotel". The building features original brick-walled entry court, parlors, galleries, solaria, roof terraces, and a domed cupola. The building has 59 apartments.
The Wyndham is a historic apartment building located at Indianapolis, Indiana. It was built in 1929, and is a seven-story, four bay wide, Tudor Revival style multicolor brick building. It features a recessed central entrance with pointed limestone arch, intricately detailed oriel window at the second and third floors, and a parapet with four blind trefoil arches.
Linwood Colonial Apartments, also known as Colonial Park Apartments, is a historic garden apartment complex and national historic district located at Indianapolis, Indiana. It was built in 1937–1938, and consists of three three-story, Colonial Revival style red brick buildings. It has 106 apartments and includes a U-shaped building and two stepped plan buildings.
Virginia Flats, also known as the Summit Place Flats, are two historic apartment buildings located at St. Joseph, Missouri. They were designed by the architectural firm Eckel & Mann. The south building was built in 1901, and is a two-story, rectangular Colonial Revival style brick four-plex with a hipped roof and a full-length, one-story front porch. The north building was built in 1888, and is a larger two-story rectangular brick Queen Anne style apartment building with 14 apartments, 7 on each floor.
The English Gardens Apartments is a historic complex of apartment buildings located in Roanoke, Virginia. The complex was designed by the Richmond-based architect E. Tucker Carlton, and was built in two phases. The first, completed in 1947, consists of nine building of three stories each, while the second, finished in 1950, consists of eight buildings of two stories each. The complex was designed in the Colonial Revival style, and all buildings are constructed of concrete blocks fronted with brick.
