Southern Seminary Main Building, originally known as the Hotel Buena Vista and now Main Hall of Southern Virginia University, is a historic hotel building located at Buena Vista, Virginia. It was built in 1890, and is a 3 1/2-story, brick and frame building in an eclectic combination of Queen Anne and French Renaissance style architecture. It features a steep slate covered gable roof, round towers with conical and domical roofs, three-level wooden galleries, and Palladian windows. By 1907, the building was known as the Southern Seminary Main Building, after consolidation of three campuses of that school. [3]

It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. [1]

Buena Vista Hotel (Safford, Arizona) United States historic place

The historic Buena Vista Hotel in Safford, Arizona was built in 1928 at cost of $80,000. The 2-story, 46-room hotel was built by Fred and Minta Waughtal, who owned the nearby Olive Hotel, and opened Oct. 15, 1929. It featured swimming pool and two bars; the Tap Room, and the Matador Room, which both featured live music and entertainment, including jazz and country and western music. The hotel closed in 1979 and was damaged in a fire. The building was demolished in 1994.

Sweet Chalybeate Springs United States historic place

Sweet Chalybeate Springs, also known as the Red Sweet Springs, Sweet Chalybeate Hotel and Sweet Chalybeate Springs Lodge, is a historic resort hotel complex located at Sweet Chalybeate, Alleghany County, Virginia. It dates to the 1850s, and consists of a main building, guest ranges, and cottages all fronted with two-level porches. There are a total of eight contributing buildings and one contributing structure. The main building is a gable roof, weatherboarded, frame structure 12 bays long and 2 bays deep. The resort developed around springs flowing undisturbed from the bottom of a small rock bluff. Sweet Chalybeate suffered decline and finally closed its doors in 1918.

The district encompasses 38 contributing buildings and 1 contributing structure in the central business district of Buena Vista. The buildings are primarily one- and two-story masonry structures, with the earliest built in 1889–1890. Notable buildings include the Buena Vista Post Office (1930), Buena Vista War Memorial Building (1954), Peoples Bank of Buena Vista (1907), Dickinson Building, Royer's Restaurant, the Advocate Building (1889), Buena Vista Masonic Building, and the Valley Steam Laundry Building. The Old Courthouse, also known as the Buena Vista Land Company building, is a historic courthouse building located at Buena Vista, Virginia. It was built in 1890, and is a 2 1/2-story, brick building with a mansard roof in the Second Empire style. It originally housed the Treasurer's Office, Mayor's Office, Office of the Clerk of Court, the courtroom Attorney's offices, the telephone exchange, and the local Odd Fellow's Lodge. The local public library has occupied the building since 1971, after a new municipal building was constructed.

Buena Vista Colored School United States historic place

Buena Vista Colored School is a historic school building for African American children located at Buena Vista, Virginia. It was built in 1914, and expanded in 1926. It is a one-story, brick structure with a hipped, sheet metal roof. Also on the property is a contributing brick outbuilding once used to store wood and coal. The building served as the only local school for African American children in grades 1–7 from 1914 to 1957. The Buena Vista Colored School Historical Society was organized in 2002 to restore the school as a museum and community center.

W.N. Seay House is a historic home located at Buena Vista, Virginia. It was built in 1889, and is a two-story, weatherboarded balloon-frame Late Victorian style dwelling. It features a highly decorated, one-story, three-bay porch with turned, bracketed posts and jig-sawn balustrade. Also on the property is a garage/utility building with board-and-batten siding. It was built by William Nelson Seay (1850-1939) who helped found Buena Vista.

Monterey Hotel, also known as the Highland Inn, is a historic hotel located at Monterey, Highland County, Virginia. It was built in 1904, and is a three-story, rambling frame building, seven bays long and three bays deep with a two-story ell to the north. It is topped by a hipped roof broken by two cross gables. It features a fine two-story Eastlake porch across an otherwise plain facade.

Brampton, also known as Buena Vista Farm, is a historic home located near Orange, in Madison County, Virginia. It was built about 1846, as a two-bay, side passage plan with a flat roof, two-story portico, and a small wing. It is a temple-form Greek Revival-style residence. A rear addition was built about 1900, and the front portico was redesigned with a pedimented form. Also on the property are the contributing brick kitchen, smokehouse, and dairy.

Orkney Springs Hotel is a historic resort spa complex located at Orkney Springs, Shenandoah County, Virginia. The oldest building, known as Maryland House, was built in 1853, and is a two-story, rectangular stuccoed frame building. It is faced on all sides by double galleries. The main hotel building, known as Virginia House, was built between 1873 and 1876. It is a four-story, stuccoed frame, "H"-shaped building measuring 100 feet by 165 feet and features a three-story verandah. The hotel contains 175 bedrooms. The remaining contributing resources are the three-story Pennsylvania House (1867), seven identical two-story, six-room, hipped roof cottages, and a small columned pavilion located next to the mineral springs.

Hotel Danville, also known as the Municipal Building and City Market, is a historic hotel building located at Danville, Virginia. The main section was built in 1927–1928, and consists of a ten-story, brick main section with two smaller axes to form a "V"-shape. The building is in the Neo-Adamesque style. The building once included the Capitol Theater, and incorporated a three-story rectangular hipped roof wing, or annex, that was the former Municipal Building and City Market complex. The building provides senior housing, known as Danville House.

Buena Vista (Roanoke, Virginia) United States historic place

Buena Vista is a historic plantation house located in Roanoke, Virginia. It was built about 1840, and is a two-story, brick Greek Revival style dwelling with a shallow hipped roof and two-story, three-bay wing. The front facade features a massive two-story diastyle Greek Doric order portico. Buena Vista was built for George Plater Tayloe and his wife, Mary (Langhorne) Tayloe. George was the son of John Tayloe III and Anne Ogle Tayloe of the noted plantation Mount Airy in Richmond County and who built The Octagon House in Washington D.C.. The property was acquired by the City of Roanoke in 1937, and was used as a city park and recreation center.

The Stanley-Woodruff-Allen House is a historic house at 37 Buena Vista Road in West Hartford, Connecticut. Built about 1752, it is one of West Hartford's oldest surviving buildings. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. It is now part of the suite of buildings of the West Hartford Art League.
