Southgate Tower is a high-rise office building at 16333 Trenton Road in Southgate, Michigan. Since its completion, it has been the tallest building in the Downriver area of Wayne County, Michigan, as well as the tallest building between Detroit and Toledo, Ohio. A large portion of office space in the building was occupied by PNC Financial Services. Until October 18, 2013, a PNC Bank branch also operated in the building. [1]
It was initially constructed in 1972 and completed in 1973 by Lincoln Park-based Security Bank to house their headquarters. Since its completion, Southgate Tower's bank tenant has changed, first in 1993 to First of America Bank, then in 1997 to National City Bank and finally to PNC in early 2010. [2] in Late 2021, reports of its conversion into Apartments if a zoning change was approved came to light, [3] and eventually construction began in Mid-2023, with planned completion being mid-2025. [4]
The office building is easily accessible from M-85 (Fort Street), as a driveway connects that road to the building's parking lot. Southgate Tower is easily visible from many locations in Southgate and adjacent communities.
Southgate is a city in Wayne County, Michigan, United States. The population was 30,047 at the 2020 census. Southgate was incorporated as a city on October 8, 1958, which was one of the last remaining portions of the now-defunct Ecorse Township. It is part of the Downriver collection of communities south of the city of Detroit.

M-85, also known as Fort Street or Fort Road for its entire length, is a state trunkline highway in the U.S. state of Michigan. The highway serves several Downriver suburbs of Detroit, as well as neighborhoods in the city itself. From its southern terminus at exit 28 on Interstate 75 (I-75) to its second interchange with exit 43 on I-75 in southwest Detroit, M-85 is part of the Lake Erie Circle Tour. In between, it serves mostly residential areas running parallel to a pair of rail lines; the highway carries between 5,000 and 43,000 vehicles per day on average. Once in the city of Detroit, Fort Street runs parallel to I-75 for several miles before they separate near the Ambassador Bridge. The northern end of M-85 is at the intersection with Griswold Street in downtown Detroit, one block away from Campus Martius Park.

Book Tower is a 145 m (476 ft), 38-story skyscraper located at 1265 Washington Boulevard in Downtown Detroit, Michigan, within the Washington Boulevard Historic District. Construction began on the Italian Renaissance-style building in 1916, as an addition to the original Book Building, and finished a decade later, making it, at the time, the tallest building in Detroit. The building was designed by architect Louis Kamper, an American architect, active in and around Detroit and Wayne County, Michigan.
The Southfield Town Center is a cluster of five interconnected skyscrapers forming a contemporary 2,200,000-square-foot (204,400 m2) office complex in the Detroit suburb of Southfield, Michigan. It includes the Westin Southfield Detroit Hotel, restaurants, a fitness center, and a major conference center for up to 1,000 attendees. This office-hotel complex is situated along Town Center Drive off M-10, across from Lawrence Technological University in Metro Detroit, with many of its tallest buildings named after their addresses along the road. Separately, there is a 33-story luxury residential high-rise at 5000 Town Center. The American Center, another 26-story office tower near the confluence of Interstate 696 (I-696) and M-10, is not part of the complex.

PNC Center, formerly National City Center and often still known by its original name, the Top of Troy, is a high-rise office building in Troy, Michigan. The complex consists of a 25-story triangular office tower and a two-floor atrium containing offices, retail, and a conference center. Completed in 1975, the International-style tower is the tallest building in Troy and among the tallest in Oakland County, standing 346 feet tall with 667,000 square feet of office space. PNC Financial Services maintains regional offices in the building as the major tenant.
Southgate Shopping Center is a shopping center located at the southeast corner of Eureka and Trenton Roads in Southgate, Michigan. Completed by 1958, it was one of the first major strip malls in the southern Detroit suburbs until the nearby Southland Center opened in 1970. At its peak, the center housed over thirty stores.
500 West Jefferson, previously known as PNC Plaza for several decades until renamed in 2020, and now also called 500W or 500 West by its owners, is a skyscraper in Downtown, Louisville, Kentucky and located at 500 West Jefferson Street. Previously owned by Pittsburgh-based PNC Bank and currently owned by SomeraRoad Inc, the 31-story, 420-foot (128 m) high structure was designed by architect Welton Becket and was completed in 1971. A notable feature of the building is the pattern of pre-cast concrete panels on the exterior of its windows. The building, originally named Citizens Fidelity Plaza, was named after Citizens Fidelity Bank and renamed PNC Plaza when Citizens Fidelity was acquired by PNC Bank.
Southland Center is an enclosed mall located at 23000 Eureka Road in Taylor, Michigan, exactly halfway between U.S. Highway 24 and the Interstate 75 freeway. The mall features Macy's, JCPenney, and Best Buy, in addition to a 12-screen stadium Cinemark Theatres. It is the newest of the Detroit area's original four "land" malls. Southland Center opened on July 20, 1970. It is owned and managed by Brookfield Properties, one of the largest mall owners in the United States.
100 East Wisconsin, or The Faison Building is a skyscraper located in downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Erected in 1989 on the site of the old Pabst Building, its design is reflective of the German-American architecture that has been preserved in downtown Milwaukee, much like Detroit's Ally Detroit Center. The building is bordered on the west by the Milwaukee River along the Milwaukee Riverwalk. It is the third tallest building in Wisconsin, behind the U.S. Bank Center, and the Northwestern Mutual Tower and Commons also located in downtown Milwaukee.
One PNC Plaza is a high-rise office building located in the Golden Triangle neighborhood of the Central Business District of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States. Constructed in 1972, it is 129.24 m (424.0 ft) 30 stories. It houses the general offices for PNC Financial Services. The building is the former location of PNC's corporate headquarters before completion of the Tower at PNC Plaza.
Riverfront Towers is an apartment and condominium complex of three high rise residential skyscrapers along the International Riverfront in Downtown Detroit, Michigan, United States. Each Riverfront Tower creates an ascending tier of three towers.
Lincoln Park Shopping Center was a shopping center located at the corner of Southfield Road and Dix Highway, mostly in Lincoln Park, Michigan, though a portion containing a former Farmer Jack supermarket and a former Wendy's restaurant lay in neighboring Allen Park. Anchored by Sears and completed by 1957, it was one of the first large-scale strip complexes in the Downriver Detroit suburbs prior to the 1970 opening of Southland Center.
The Riverfront Apartments is a 289 ft (88 m) tall high-rise building located at 245 North Summit Street in Downtown Toledo. It stood as Toledo's tallest building for 17 years, from its completion in 1913 until the completion of the PNC Bank Building in 1930. The Riverfront Apartments building is currently the fifth-tallest building in Toledo.
The PNC Bank located on Trenton Road near Pennsylvania Road closed Oct. 18.
