150 West Jefferson (formerly known as the Madden Building) [4] is a skyscraper and class-A office center in Downtown Detroit, Michigan. The building's construction began in 1987 and was completed in 1989. It stands at 26 stories tall, with two basement floors, for a total of 28. The building stands at 150 West Jefferson Avenue, between Shelby Street and Griswold Street, and between Jefferson and Larned Street bordering the Detroit Financial District.
Detroit's two oldest law firms, Butzel Long and Miller, Canfield, Paddock & Stone, are headquartered in the building. KPMG and Amazon also have offices 150 West Jefferson. [5]
REDICO, a Southfield-based commercial real estate firm, purchased the building in July 2016. [4]
The building's main exterior materials include glass, granite, and concrete in a postmodern architectural design. The high-rise building is primarily used as an office tower, with a parking garage, restaurant and retail offices inside it. The 150 West Jefferson high rise replaced the Detroit Stock Exchange Building. Some of the façade of the old building was preserved and incorporated into the interior and exterior decoration of the new building. The skyscraper rises 444' 6" from its front entrance off West Jefferson Avenue. The back entrance off the podium on Larned Street actually sits 7' lower.
Four flagpoles, each 30 feet (9 m) high, are located at each corner of the top of the slanted roof. Each displays an American flag; the four can be seen across the river in Windsor, Ontario.
The Financial District station of the Detroit People Mover system is adjacent to the building, accessible via an entrance in the lobby.
The Renaissance Center, commonly known as the RenCen, is a complex of seven connected skyscrapers in downtown Detroit, Michigan, United States. The Renaissance Center complex is on the Detroit International Riverfront and is owned and used by General Motors as its world headquarters. The central tower has been the tallest building in Michigan since its completion in 1977.
The Guardian Building is a landmark 43-story office skyscraper in the Financial District of downtown Detroit, Michigan. Built from 1928 to 1929, the building was originally called the Union Trust Building and is a bold example of Art Deco architecture, including art moderne designs. Ally Detroit Center, formerly One Detroit Center, is a skyscraper and class-A office building located in Downtown Detroit, overlooking the Detroit Financial District. Rising 619 feet (189 m), the 43-story tower is the tallest office building in Michigan and the second tallest building overall in the state behind the central hotel tower of the Renaissance Center, located a few blocks away. Although the Penobscot Building has more floors above ground (45), those of Ally Detroit Center are taller, with its roof sitting roughly 60 feet (18 m) taller than that of the Penobscot. Bedrock Detroit owns and manages the building which began leasing in late 2018 and includes 107 apartment homes and 5 floors of commercial office space.
211 West Fort Street is a 27-story skyscraper in Downtown Detroit, Michigan, currently owned by Tribus LLC a family owned office in Grosse Pointe, MI. Construction began in 1961, and finished in 1963. The building stands at the southeast corner of Fort Street and Washington Boulevard. It was constructed adjacent to the Detroit Trust Company Building, designed by Albert Kahn in 1915, as offices for the Detroit Bank and Trust Company, later known as Comerica. The bank occupied space in the building until 1993, when it moved to One Detroit Center. In the courtyard between the two buildings is a sculpture based on the bank's logo at the time.
The Coleman A. Young Municipal Center (CAYMC) is a government office building and courthouse in downtown Detroit, Michigan. Originally called the City-County Building, it was renamed for the former Detroit Mayor Coleman A. Young, shortly after his death in 1997. 1001 Woodward is a 25-floor office building in Downtown Detroit, Michigan. It replaced the Majestic Building, a 14-story high rise on the same site. Constructed from 1963 to 1965, the building is designed in the International Style. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013.
