Sree Narayana Public School also known as SN Public School and SNPS, in Kollam, in the Indian state of Kerala, was established in 1987 [2] under the management of the Sree Narayana Educational Society. [4] The society is a voluntary, social and cultural organisation, the members of which are drawn from all walks of life and who comprise persons who believe in the teachings of the great Gnani of action, Sree Narayana Guru. Sree Narayana was a philosopher, social reformer, writer and humanist.

Aims and objectives

Sree Narayana Public School was established in 1987, by Sree Narayana Educational Society, in keeping with its aims of propagating and popularising the teachings of Narayana Guru, affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education, [5] New Delhi, in Kollam, complying with the new education policy of the Government of India.

Location

The school is located in a beautiful and spacious campus just 1 km away from Thattamala Junction off the National Highway NH-47 and is close to the by-pass road from Thattamala which passes through Mulluvila village. From Kollam the distance is almost 5 km to the school. The 15-acre (61,000 m2) area of the campus houses the buildings, a garden and playground. Extensive green paddy fields in front of the campus are an added attraction to the school.

Achievements

In 2018, the school achieved 100% pass in CBSE class XII examinations. [6] In 2020, 247 out of 248 students from Sree Narayana Public School qualified for higher studies. [7]

Grades in the CBSE examination are awarded subject wise: one-eighth of the total number of candidates from all over India who top in each subject will be awarded A1 and the next one-eighth A2 grades. Many students of the school secured A1 or A2 grades in most subjects [ citation needed ].

The students of Sree Narayana Public School was leading the second day of the CBSE schools' arts festival held in 2016. [8] In 2013, Arathy V, a class XII student from Sree Narayana Public School, won second prize in the state CBSE youth festival for light music competition. [9]

In 2015, S. Bhadra, a student from SN Public School won second prize in the state CBSE youth festival held in Thrissur. [10]

In 2019, Anjana Sugunan of SN Public School won second place in the Kerala state level painting competition organised by ISRO in connection with the World Space Week celebrations. [11]

The first ever trans woman doctor from Kerala completed her schooling from Sree Narayana Public School. [12]

Education in Kerala

The importance and antiquity of education in Kerala is underscored by the state's ranking as among the most literate in the country. The educational transformation of Kerala was triggered by efforts of the Church Mission Society missionaries, who were the pioneers that promoted mass education in Kerala, in the early decades of the 19th century. Sree Narayana Trust

Sree Narayana Trust, also known as the SN Trust, is an Indian educational organisation. The headquarters of Sree Narayana Trust is in Kollam city. It is named after Sree Narayana Guru and was formed by a former Chief Minister of Kerala, R. Sankar, in 1952 to manage the Sree Narayana College, Kollam. Later, educational institutions were started in other parts of Kerala.

The area had mercantile relationship with Phoenicians and the Romans.
