Tai Lam Centre for Women is a maximum security women's prison in Tuen Mun,New Territories,Hong Kong. It is operated by Hong Kong Correctional Services and currently has a capacity of 391 prisoners. It was established in 1969. [1]
As of 1992 illegal immigrants from Mainland China were placed in Tai Lam,and the prison was overcrowded by about 60%. [2] At one time the prison held 817 prisoners even though its facilities were officially for 278 prisoners. [3]
As of 1997 only two male prison guards had contact with the female prisoners:the technical instructor and superintendent. [3]
Tuen Mun District is one of the 18 administrative districts of Hong Kong. It is the westernmost continental district of Hong Kong. It had a population of 487,546 in 2011. Part of the district is the Tuen Mun New Town,which contains one of the largest residential areas in the New Territories.

Tuen Mun or Castle Peak is an area near the mouth of Tuen Mun River and Castle Peak Bay in the New Territories,Hong Kong. Tuen Mun Community Network was a local political group based in Tuen Mun founded in 2015. In a historic pro-democracy landslide in 2019 District Council election,the group won a total of four seats in the Tuen Mun District Council.
Tuen Mun San Tsuen is a walled village in Lam Tei,Tuen Mun District,Hong Kong. The walled village is also called San Tsuen Wai (新村圍) or Tai Yuen Wai (大園圍).
